(More customer reviews)One of the reasons I watch Charlie Rose is to learn about people who I have heard much about, and essentially know little about. The world of Professional Tennis is to say the least not a major interest of mine. Here Charlie Rose talks with one of the great tennis players of all time. He is also one of its most controversial players. Here he talks about his famous rivals , Connors, Borg, Lendl- about his models in tennis, mainly Rod Laver, about some of his great matches, about his recent election to the 'Tennis Hall of Fame'. McEnroe is amiable, and forthright. He says that his 'rudeness' only helped him in the game, and that he was made to be 'terrible ' in a way he never was. He was not violent, did not fight with people. He talks about his famous rivalry with Connors which continues even as they compete in Seniors- competition. He tells about his devotion to his large family. He talks about the doldrums Tennis seems to be in at the time of the conversation, doldrums it has since come out of. For me the most enjoyable part of the whole conversation was a line McEnroe throws out, a quotation from basketball great Connie Hawkins , "The older I get , the better I used to be'.
I think anyone who takes a real interest in the game of Tennis will have real enjoyment in listening to this conversation.
