The Art of Russian Massage Review

The Art of Russian Massage
Average Reviews:

I was born and grew up in Russia, and I had some training in Russian massage. I am also a certified massage practitioner here in the US, so I purchased the video with the purpose of reviewing of what I learned in Russia. I found the video not entirely useless, but only somewhat helpful. I wish instead of demonstrating cupping and honey massage Olena would focus more on the Russian massage techniques and demonstrated the application on the full body, not just the back.

Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release: A Video Guide to Techniques

I am a licensed massage therapist and I purchased Art Rigg's "Deep Tissue Massage" manual about a year ago and loved it, but really needed to see what was being explained in the book. I had very high hopes for the DVD's and was not disappointed, rather the opposite, they exceed my expectations. Mr. Rigg's is an enjoyable instructure to watch, as well as extremely skilled and knowledgeable. It is apparent his goal is to help massage therapists become well-informed and successful practitioners. Cultivating touch, anatomy review, biomechanics, and working with injuries - together with hours of excellent demonstrations of applied techniques, you can't go wrong with this set. These videos move at a very comfortable pace, each building upon the next. The DVD format is ideal for easy reference. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and highly recommend this set to recent graduates of massage therapy programs as well as long-time practicing massage therapists.

Tai Chi for Beginners Review

Tai Chi for Beginners

In reading some of the reviews, I can't help but think some are missing the point. While I am only in my early 30s, the silver-hairs did not distract me from learning Tai Chi from this DVD. While some of them don't move as smoothly as some can, Dr Lam does move quite well and provides an excellent example of the proper form. As for the dialogue, after you listen to it a few times, you should be able to do the moves at your own pace and if you get ahead of the DVD, simply stand and meditate and wait for it to catch up. I use the remote on my DVD player to rewind and fast forward so I can do things at my own pace. If you are starting Tai Chi, this DVD should work for you. If you are more experienced, then this may bore you quickly. All I know is that I have slept better in the last week than I ever have (I do Tai Chi at night, right before bed). I now awaken fully refreshed before the alarm goes off!

These dvds are a little longer than the other dvds (the easy and the wake up series), but they are great. I am pretty fit but unflexible and this is a great way to increase flexibility and also work on strength training if (like me) you don't like weights but feel that the work out from just cardio isn't enough.
Obviously Wei Lana's usual soft voice, beautiful natural landscape and calming meditation at the end is the perfect way to start the day.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and wanted some form of exercise besides walking and swimming that I could do to retain my flexibility. Tai-Chi also has meditative qualities that I like but those are not mentioned in the DVD at all. The pace is slow and sequential. It is repeated 3 times before learning a new move. I found it very user friendly and easy to learn because of the slow repetitive pace. I will order others Dr. Lam might produce.

Fitness Made Simple: Six Pack Abs with John Basedow Review

Fitness Made Simple: Six Pack Abs with John Basedow
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm never going to look quite like John Basedow, but by alternating the three sets of exercises (I do one set each day), which take about ten minutes or so at the most to do, for about two months now, I've seen a lot of improvement and won't be embarrassed on the beach or at the pool this summer (well, except for my complete lack of a tan).
For overall health, I think you need to combine this with a healthy, sensible diet and some other exercise (all I do are pushups and long daily walks). Six pack abs won't do anything for your arms or shoulders or anything other than your abs, but it does tone muscles that are pretty hard to build up otherwise.
Basedow demonstrates everything very well, and is a pleasant enough exercise partner.

The Kettlebell Goddess Workout: How to Achieve and Maintain a Divine Body with the World's Most Effective Tool for Weight Loss, Strength, Endurance and Flexibility Review

The Kettlebell Goddess Workout: How to Achieve and Maintain a Divine Body with the World's Most Effective Tool for Weight Loss, Strength, Endurance and Flexibility
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just completed my first Kettlebell Goddess workout (Odyne -- the Goddess of Pain -- yeah, I'm a masochist) and loved it!
The DVD design is intelligent & user friendly. It's setup as interactive menus which allow freedom of choice. You can choose from the Goddess workouts (which either focus on cardio or strength) or a build-your-own workout by combining different exercises and Goddess workouts. There's even a pdf file that contains examples for your weekly exercise routines which allow you to chose between cardio & strength.
The Goddess workouts are a complete workout which include a warm-up and a cool down/stretch. The build-your-own workouts include elements from all of the workouts, plus there are additional exercises.
Granted, you have to buy the kettlebells, but this is still a great price for the volume of exercises available. Kettlebells are pretty reasonable until you get up to the really heavy ones. I'm starting with a 4 kg/9 lb kettlebell I got at a local sporting goods shop for $20. It's the traditional black iron Russian version, not the colorful, vinyl coated American version.
The instruction is easy to follow, and the exercises are demonstrated well. I just hate when they pan to the pretty smiling model's face and I can't see what she's actually DOING, which is the whole point of the darned thing! That doesn't really happen with this video. One of the things that seperates this from the pack of most workout DVDs is that all three are Kettlebell instructors. One is even a medical doctor. They aren't model/actresses who answered a casting call ad and know little to nothing about the exercises.
Another feature which seperates this DVD from the pack is NO CHEESY MUSIC! Andrea has omitted the usual, generic workout music in favor of simple instruction. Much of the time, there is no speaking either, just breathing. She says once you get the hang of the exercises, feel free to play your own music. I went ahead and played mine and was able to hear her and the music. So much better than that Goddess awful synthesizer music commonly found in workout videos (pardon the pun)! =P

Eight Simple Qigong Exercises For Health: The Eight Pieces of Brocade Review

Eight Simple Qigong Exercises For Health: The Eight Pieces of Brocade
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was introduced to the benefits of Qigong by a good friend a few months ago. I noticed that it had immediate physical benefits. I had been searching for a practice that would help increase my physical energy.
This is a wonderful introduction to Qigong for beginners. I bought the video on the recommendations of the reviewers here and have not been disappointed. Plus it is a very reasonable cost compared to the other options.
Dr. Yang gives very clear and concise explanations of the theory behind the poses. The exercises are simple to do. I have started with the sitting exercises and am doing them morning and night the past few days.
I suffer from chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia and bought this to improve the energy flow in my body. I have been feeling very weak lately due to lack of sleep and stress and found that the poses gave me immediate benefit by taking a layer of pain off my body. I am sleeping better too. I will check back in 3 months to update the benefits.
Also it became clear to me from watching the DVD that the problems I am having are energy problems. After doing the exercises I could feel the chi flowing in parts of my body that have been blocked -- namely my feet and arms. I also noticed that my kidneys are extremely sore and probably depleted. I was shocked. These exercises made me more aware of what is really going on in my body.
The sitting exercises are great for those who need to take it slow. To the senior gentleman who was upset that Dr. Yang didn't go into modifications. Yes, you are right, but you needn't worry if you can't stretch all the way to your toes. Just stretch as far forward as you can comfortably do. He also says in his analysis that the repetitions are guidelines -- and to do what you can.
A great DVD. I can't wait to see how I'm feeling in a few months. The DVD made me realize that I need to renergize my kidney's and I am buying herbal tea and herbs to assist in that process. I for one am tired of exercise that pushes the body past it's limits. This set of poses works with the body that you have now!

Chinese Shamanic Tiger Qigong Review

Chinese Shamanic Tiger Qigong
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Chinese Shamanic Tiger Qigong is presented in a very accessable way. The full form is shown from two different angles and also broken down and taught step-by-step. Even though it is relatively easy to memorize and perform the movements, this Qigong feels more advanced than many of the styles I have experienced. The quality of movement shown on the video is difficult to replicate. Obviously, Master Wu is a very skilled practitioner. I would not recommend this DVD to beginners, but anyone who has some experience with Qigong would benefit from owning this DVD (and the companion book).
It is really a rare thing to have someone like Master Wu present a shamanic form of Qigong to a western audience. I have not seen anything else like it--certainly not anything of such high quality production. It is something I know I will spend several years learning and re-learning, hoping someday to acheive mastery.

I am a 4th dan Tae Kwon Do instructor and have been practicing the art of Tae Kwon Do for about 18 years. This DVD has been the most helpful Poomse reference I have ever purchased. The DVD has helped me and my students.
1) Every form is repeated twice, so you don't have to keep rewinding. The 2nd time, the form is done in slow motion (not digital slow motion but Master Mak actually performs the form slower).
2) The sound effects, background music and the nice scenario really allows my younger students to enjoy practicing/refreshing their memory of the forms at home. It even keeps the older students on their toes.
3) The DVD quality from the packaging to the filming is flawless. Excellent product. The video is professionally edited and fluent.
Awesome DVD, 100s of my students have already purchased it and love it. I'm glad that there is finally a DVD that contains all the palgwe and taegeuk forms. Makes it so much more convenient.
Overall, great DVD, engaging performance, excellent quality.

Shaolin White Crane: Hard and Soft Qigong Review

Shaolin White Crane: Hard and Soft Qigong
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I myself have training in the arts of Tae Kwan Do and Karate. After I dedicated a few years to each school, I decided I enjoyed Chinese martial arts more so than Korean style. Every sect of martial art is unique and wonderful; however, I found the most enjoyment in Chinese. This in turn led a search to find a proper, traditional kung fu school. Well, such thing does not exist in Colorado, however, Dr. Yang's DVDs do!
Do not get me wrong, as White Crane techniques have been adapted into nearly every martial art, this DVD is priceless regardless of style (or lack there of.) This DVD is much more strenuous than some may believe too. Even in Soft Qigong, it is easy to break a sweat (if done properly.)
Dr. Yang's "Shaolin White Crane" book compliments this video. While the book is not required, it is highly recommended. It goes over the spiritual aspects, history, and breathing, while the video does not. In my opinion, the book may be more important than the physical training itself.
If you want to build a properly strong foundation for TRUE Shaolin Gong Fu (Kung Fu) studies as I am doing, this DVD is second to none. For you see, Dr. Yang is a White Crane (among other arts) student of two TRUE Shaolin masters (you will have to buy the book to see whom.)
This is a DVD I will be using ten - twenty - thirty years down the road with my White Crane studies. At YMAA.COM (Yang's Martial Arts Association) site, there are near countless other videos, books, compact discs, art, uniforms, etc. Included in these are White Crane Basic training 1 & 2 (2 tapes, or one DVD.) Moreover, Basic training 3 & 4 are due out in a month or two. Currently there are Kung Fu Fundamentals, Ti Chi, Chi Na, and much more, take time to visit www.ymaa.com, you will not be disappointed.
In addition, there is NO affiliation with YMAA and myself. I simply have much passion and respect for such true quality video training, A RARITY now a day.
I digress though; this DVD is broken down into Soft, Hard, and extras (ymaa video clips for others videos.) Within Soft and Hard are subdirectories that allow simple navigation to any point of study. I find the best feature is how there is nearly no talking, just soft Chinese music that escorts the current movement or exercise. Actual training is VERY easy to understand and follow, but to replicate the flowing movements of Dr. Yang, well that is up to hard work and time.
Yet that is what martial training is:
time, dedication, development, and enlightenment.
Peaceful Years.
Ivory Crane.

Tai Chi Ball Qigong Review

Tai Chi Ball Qigong
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This DVD is a compilation of part one and part two of the video tape series covering Taiji Ball Qigong. Taiji Ball Qigong should be learned by everyone interested in Taijiquan. The patterns taught in this video are an integral part of taijiquan movement. Persons already skilled in Taijiquan will recognize the basic types of movement covered in this video.
COURSE ONE TAIJI BALL CIRCLING
16 basic patterns
Qigong Breathing Techniques
Vertical Circling Forward (stationary, rocking, walking and Bagua circle)
Vertical Circling Backward
Horizontal Circling Clockwise
Horizontal Circling Counterclockwise
COURSE TWO TAIJI BALL ROTATING
16 basic patterns
Detailed instruction
Vertical Rotating Forward
Vertical Rotating Backward
Horizontal Rotating Clockwise
Horizontal Rotating Counterclockwise
TAIJI BALLS
Dr. Yang explains the difference between various types of Taiji Balls, which vary in size, weight and material. Valuable information is provided to guide the student in choosing the correct type of Taiji Ball.Five different types of Taiji Balls are shown and discussed, illustrating the good and bad points of each type.
Rubber ball - Good for beginners. No strain on lower back muscles due to low weight.
Wood ball - good for Taijiquan and useful for developing internal Qi power. Usually made of two halves glued together, due to the difficulty of making a ball from one piece of wood.
Glue can be a problem when sending Qi due to being a different material than the wood.
Rock/Marble ball - used by Shaolin practitioners and useful in developing external Qi power. More difficult to move Qi through this type of ball.
Best to start with a small ball and then move up to a larger ball after developing more strength.
INTERNAL FOUNDATION
The following types of breathing are taught and discussed:
WUJI BREATHING
YONG QUAN BREATHING
LAO GONG BREATHING
4 GATES BREATHING
TAIJI GRAND CIRCULATION BREATHING
TAIJI BALL BREATHING
Dr. Yang gives invaluable information concerning these breathing methods.

TAIJI BALL QIGONG CIRCLING PRACTICE
Internal - no ball - enhances and strengthens skin and bone marrow
External - with ball - conditions the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Unification of Internal and External - no ball
Dr. Yang provides excellent tips throughout the video that point out the required techniques and then provides clear explanations of what makes it all work. Reverse abdominal breathing is suggested while doing the exercises. Dr. Yang describes how a practitioner can circle the ball to mimic the fire path or the wind path. With the fire path the ball moves away from the face and then down, which is like the Qi coming up the back, over the top of the head and down the front side of the body. With the wind path the ball goes out from the dantien and up, and then back towards the face and then down, which is like the Qi coming up the front of the body, over the head and down the back.
Dr. Yang moves his body in a very smooth and flexible manner, causing his back to circle in a similar manner as the path of the ball.

FOUR PATTERNS
Dr. Yang explains that circling and rotating have four patterns:
Vertical Forward
Vertical Backward
Horizontal clockwise
Horizontal counter clockwise
At first the moves are demonstrated by four or five students of Dr. Yang. The students do the moves with varying degrees of skill. Following this demonstration that includes some beginning instruction, two more advanced students of Dr. Yang practice the circling pattern in a lush outdoor setting.

This is a nice time for the student to follow along with the demonstrators who appear to be doing the moves with a fair degree of skill. Following this section, the video then brings the viewer back into the studio for a more detailed explanation of how to do the moves. At various times Dr. Yang demonstrates the moves to the class.
These patterns are taught while using four types of stances or steps:
Stationary (builds initial strength)
Rocking (used to train the timing)
Walking (forward and backward)
Bagua Circle
Dr. Yang then takes one student at a time and has them demonstrate the patterns while Dr. Yang offers invaluable correction and advice. This video has a surprising amount of instruction for the topic. Although I am familiar with the quality of Dr. Yang's instructional books and videos, I did not expect as much material as there is present on this video. The patterns taught will be familiar to anyone that practices taijiquan on a regular basis. There are many patterns that one does in the Taijiquan form that many students might not have realized existed. While doing these Taiji Ball exercises I recognized patterns that I have observed when practicing the martial applications of Taijiquan.

In the end of the first section of the Yang long form, after one does step, parry and punch, the punch goes forward and one imagines that the opponent has grabbed the right wrist. The fist does the horizontal counterclockwise pattern while rocking backwards, which then turns into a push.
I've seen video of a master doing the move differently in his later years. The master, instead of circling counterclockwise while rocking backwards with his right fist, instead does vertical circling backwards to bring the fist up and back, and as the fist goes down the back of the circle the two hands then push forward. Both techniques work to escape the wrist grab and to turn the escape into a push. One uses vertical circling/rotating and the other uses horizontal circling/rotating.
This video has an amazing amount of information.
I strongly recommend it to any student of Taijiquan. The skills taught and the benefits received make the video appropriate for anyone interested in body/mind/spirit development.

As a teacher and educator for over 20 years, with my own educational products, I enthusiastically recommend Til's DVDs to students looking for that extra knowledge to deal with virtually every complaint or request for improved body function or posture. His entire set or individual DVDs are very well produced and clear; his explanations are precise and easy to grasp; and seeing Til perform the work in real time gives a huge advantage over just reading about techniques in a book. Til is a great teacher with a wealth of knowledge presented here. The knowledge you gain from this set will pay for the cost of the DVDs in the first few days as clients will immediately notice the difference in your work and become regulars who will refer their friends.
Do check out Til's website ([...]) for more detailed information about the DVDs and for Til's schedule of excellent workshops.

I bought a couple of the individual videos included in this pack and then I found there was a combo pack that had them all. Because of the discount, essentially, I could have had all those videos I already bought and some others for free..
I think the vids are a good basis for learning about massage. I'm thinking about just ponying up and buying the rest.
Best of luck to you

Full body massage can be done safely from conception to labor and delivery. Relaxation music or mood music is essential in this process. The body subconsciously takes cues from sound and transfers that reaction directly to the muscles. So, it is important to control what sounds are heard. Relaxation music is the most effective means of controlling the ambient sound and substituting soothing sounds designed to relax. Relaxation music can range from the sound or rain or the beach to the sounds or crickets at night. What a mess! The candles were tealight candles that were chipped and the pieces and powder were all over everything. No bottle of oil... just small pixie stix like tubes (2). Incense cystals ...but I have no idea to use them. I have not opened the videos or CD... But I imagine they will be completely cheesy!! Save your money... skip this product!!
