This is an outstanding DVD. Steve is a very knowledgeable instructor. He has a passion for what he does and it shows in this DVD. My friends and I have learned a tremendous amount from his Encyclopedias. If you want to learn Kettlebells this is the man to do it with.

I own and use this DVD. If I had to own only one teachers DVD instruction for kettlebells...this would be the one. It is detailed, clear, specific, and accurate. Steve is an outstanding athlete and what makes this DVD so good is that Steve is also an exceptional teacher. Numerous of my students have ordered and enjoyed these DVDs. Navigating through the various DVDs is easy. Each movement being taught is shown from several angles with minimal camera movement. This makes it much easier to see what Steve is demonstrating.
Steve puts lots of focus on detailed descriptons of the most efficient way to do each kettlebell lift. I find that I refer back to these DVDs regularly to refine my own skills. Truly a worthwhile investment for everyone wanting outstanding instruction in the art and science of kettlebell lifting.
Get series 1 today, put the principles and skills Steve teaches into practice, and you'll experience significant gains in a very short period of time. I would give these DVDs a ten star if I could.

I just completed my first Kettlebell Goddess workout (Odyne -- the Goddess of Pain -- yeah, I'm a masochist) and loved it!
The DVD design is intelligent & user friendly. It's setup as interactive menus which allow freedom of choice. You can choose from the Goddess workouts (which either focus on cardio or strength) or a build-your-own workout by combining different exercises and Goddess workouts. There's even a pdf file that contains examples for your weekly exercise routines which allow you to chose between cardio & strength.
The Goddess workouts are a complete workout which include a warm-up and a cool down/stretch. The build-your-own workouts include elements from all of the workouts, plus there are additional exercises.
Granted, you have to buy the kettlebells, but this is still a great price for the volume of exercises available. Kettlebells are pretty reasonable until you get up to the really heavy ones. I'm starting with a 4 kg/9 lb kettlebell I got at a local sporting goods shop for $20. It's the traditional black iron Russian version, not the colorful, vinyl coated American version.
The instruction is easy to follow, and the exercises are demonstrated well. I just hate when they pan to the pretty smiling model's face and I can't see what she's actually DOING, which is the whole point of the darned thing! That doesn't really happen with this video. One of the things that seperates this from the pack of most workout DVDs is that all three are Kettlebell instructors. One is even a medical doctor. They aren't model/actresses who answered a casting call ad and know little to nothing about the exercises.
Another feature which seperates this DVD from the pack is NO CHEESY MUSIC! Andrea has omitted the usual, generic workout music in favor of simple instruction. Much of the time, there is no speaking either, just breathing. She says once you get the hang of the exercises, feel free to play your own music. I went ahead and played mine and was able to hear her and the music. So much better than that Goddess awful synthesizer music commonly found in workout videos (pardon the pun)! =P

I bought this DVD when I first started using kettlebells. His "Enter the Kettlebell" book provided details, but the DVD showed proper application. Pavel personally shows how to do fundamental KB exercises: swing, clean, press, and snatch. While he hams up the evil Russian persona a bit, this is the best DVD for learning how to use kettlebells as well as proper warmups. If you are about to start doing kettlebells, buy this DVD.

I bought this DVD because it's longer than Pavel's first DVD, The Russian Kettlebell Challenge, which sounded skimpy at 32 minutes.I'm pleased with my purchase. The video isn't perfect, but Pavel's instruction alone is worth the price.
First and foremost, for all the self-promotion and over-the-top slogans, Pavel knows what he's doing. His sense of humor shows through the awkwardness, and his running commentary is filled with valuable information. Pavel is truly a geek: He has a broad and deep knowledge of his field, he believes in the importance of his work, and he wants everyone else to love it and know as much about it as he does. There is no substitute for the quality of instruction such a person can provide.
Based only on the choice of material and quality of instruction, I would give the video five stars. The downside is that I'm a little bit disappointed with the models.
The models are good, but they don't always look completely comfortable with the techniques. Watching a master is an enlightening experience. Occasionally these women rise to that level, but just as often they seem more like advanced beginners. On some of the exercises, I can see imperfections in their technique, and they seem to be correcting their form as Pavel describes the exercises. (I'm not talking about the times when Pavel asks them to demonstrate common mistakes.) It's easier for me to be a critic than to do it right, but for a commercial video, Pavel should have found models who were truly masters with the kettlebells. After all, they're not called models because they have exceptional bodies (although they do), they're called models because the viewer is supposed to be able to use them as models for his or her own technique.
On a final note, I'd like note that the production quality is not very good, and the people on screen are not professional fitness actors and actresses. This interfered with my first viewing of the video. In fact, on my first viewing I got a strong "battered woman" vibe from the two models. On subsequent viewings I realized that this is a product of lighting (the women's faces are often half in shadow), awkwardness in front of the camera, the fact that the women are actually being challenged by the exercises (no fake weights here), and the lack of that awful chirpiness and cheerfulness that bugs me so much in real life, but which I have come to expect from women who exercise on my television. The women don't act coked up, the actors don't always hit their marks, and Pavel's delivery is occasionally stilted. Ack! Real people on my television screen! After watching the video once or twice, this won't bother you any more. (On the other hand, you *will* be disappointed if you're looking for spunk or girl-power attitude from the models.)
In summary, the instruction is top-notch, the production quality distracted me a bit during the first viewing, and the models do not always live up to that title. It's an easy four stars, and I won't hesitate to buy more of Pavel's products in the future.
