I recently recieved this DVD as a present from a very good friend who knows of my interests in pre-kung fu mania martial arts. And if you're interested in the history of modern judo you may want to purchase it.It chronicles the first Olympic judo competition held at the Tokyo games in 1964.Up front, the quality of this DVD isn't the best. The film is nearly 50 years old,so it's grainy in spots. And at the time it was filmed they only used one camera to capture all of the action. So sometimes it seems rather static. It's also taken from the original Japanese broadcast. So if you don't speak Japanese you might get a little lost. There are a few sub-titles, but they're only there to tell you who's competing.I really think the producers of this disc should have taken the footage that they had and either used an updated commentary or translated the original broadcast.Still you get to see Geesink vs.Kamanaga.You also get to see all four members of the U.S.A delegation in action and the gold medal match between Japan's 196lb. Inokuma and Canada's 260lb. Doug Rogers.A match won by Inokuma. As I said if you're interested in judo history you may want to purchase this DVD.Otherwise I don't know if it's worth the price it's being sold for.

The 1964 Olympic Games were a milestone for all martial arts not just Judo.It marked the first time Judo was recognized as an Olympic Sport and Kano's dream had become a reality. It was also the year Japan lost its grip on Judo and Dutchman Anton "The Giant" Geesink won the Open weight category in Judo disposing the myth that technique would always beat sizeGeesink was 6'6" tall and 267 pounds and in perfect condition. Also Americca's Jim Bregman, George Harris, Hayward Nishiyoka were among some of Americas top fighters who helped to break the grip Japan had enjoyed on the world stage of Judo. This DVD is the record that will show you many of these monumental battles incluidng the fight between Geesink and Kaminaga Akio the Japanese National Champion that will go down in history as one of the greatest Judo matches of all time if not the greatest.Broken into several sections this DVD is easy to jump from one fight to another and back again.
