(More customer reviews)I'm baffled that anyone thinks this should provide any instructional value. It's pure ski entertainment and one of Warren's best. This is my favorite of all of Warren Miller's most recent films, including his latest, Impact. Warren's films stand apart from other ski films because of the narration by skiing's wise sage Warren Miller. At once humorous and soulful, Warren Miller captures the essence of the ski bum culture in his films. If you can only buy one Warren Miller ski film, buy this one, better yet, buy them all.

(More customer reviews)This video is tremendous. I bought it on iTunes but after watching it I totally had to have it on dvd as well. The soundtrack is stellar & the footage was great. Best thing is that it mostly shows skiing action, whereas the last few years of Warren Miller films follow the same formula every time (here's guys making lines off a peak... next here's snowboarders riding rails in a parking lot at night & slamming their face on concrete). Besides the predictability, Miller films of late go easy on the action & instead just talk you to death.
Warning: this video is ALL skiing & no snowboarding.

(More customer reviews)This is a wonderful collection of ski movie classics. It brings back great memories. As a kid, I remember going to see a John Jay movie in Albany, NY in the early 60's. His drole humor and home movie feel makes it fun to watch all over again. The 1960 Winter Olympic footage at Squaw Valley, Dick Barrymore's "The last of the Ski Bums" and Otto Lang's classic B&W movies are worth adding to your collection. These movies are a reminder of skiings rich history. It puts the emphasis on the joy, the exhilaration and the pure fun of skiing. You won't be disappointed.

(More customer reviews)I LOVE this movie!! Saw some clips online about these guys and their wingsuits, which is also included. Beautifully shot extreme skiing and a killer soundtrack too. I've seen other extreme sport movies, some of which are just compilations of bits, but they really did a beautiful job filming this. Buy it, it's worth every penny. And definitely get the BlueRay if you can use it.

Combining loads of hot shot footage and a pumping alt.rock soundtrack, both the video and DVD are a perfect presentation or backdrop to a club potluck, overnight trip, or snow dance party. Mostly promotional in nature rather than oriented to technique, that is enough right there to separate this beast from the pack. There is something for just about anyone. Big Mountain Extreme Ski Movies: Respect and The Waiting Game (Non-Profit) Review

(More customer reviews)If you have ever fantasized about quitting your day job and making downhill skiing the main priority of your life, you can get a taste of that fantasy by watching this ski movie. Filled with beautiful scenery, extreme skiing, skier profiles, and a fitting soundtrack, The Waiting Game will have you feeling the anticipation for ski time.
The movie opens itself up with several skiiers sitting around a campfire telling about a ski fantasy or goal that they are waiting to have or had to wait for to happen. This theme of anticipation stories ties each scene of the film together. There are more skiiers in this film than should be listed in an article, with each one having their own action scene in a beautiful and famed ski location.
The film takes the viewer to several Utah locations, Haines and Valdez Alaska, and Jackson, Wyoming. Shots from the road travel are included, giving a sense of what the travel time must be like. The filmmakers also include some of each ski towns' scenic backdrop other than it's ski slopes. For example, the port of Valdez is shown before the Alaska ski scenes.
The soundtrack adds to the mood of each ski scene. Without music, an adrenaline rush trip down a slope would look like peaceful lines being drawn on a nice snowy background of your tv. The soundtrack of this film effectively helps the viewer to step into the mindset of the skier on screen.
Narration of the thoughts and reflections of these different people who have dedicated their lives to skiing peppers throughout the movie. Interview footage of Bill Briggs, the legendary Jackson Hole skiier who was the first to ski the Grand Tetons in 1971, shows that for those who make this lifestyle choice, it will be a choice without regret.
Briggs also plays his banjo and sings about skiing in the opening campfire scene. This turns into one of the films drawbacks. Skiiers are telling about what they are or have waited for at the same time, so you can't really understand Briggs or the skiiers.
The Waiting Game comes with a second disc of special features, including a music video of Briggs song. The video doesn't have the skiiers talking, so at least you get the opportunity to hear just the song. There is also an action only version of the film. My favorite on the second disc was the history of heliskiing in Alaska's Chugach mountains. A few product and company promos are included on the second disc. Overall the second disc really does add to the set - it isn't just a few things thrown together to make a set without adding anything worthy of viewing.
I am giving this film a four out of five. I am glad I took the time to check it out from my local library and watch it.

(More customer reviews)Too often we take for granted the fitness conditioning required for skiing. Ski Fitness could aptly be named essential fitness for all types of skiers (alpine and nordic). The disk guides you through a general cardio and muscular fitness program and leads into ski specific fitness dry-land drills, exercises and modes. The program is wonderfully narrated and demonstrated. We found the product suitable for beginner to advanced skiers alike. Elite athletes may wish to check out the post graduate version of fitness conditioning Nordic Ski Training Secrets for High Performance Sport. As a big bonus, the disk includes a yoga class and core strength class (lead by famous adventurer and extreme athlete Ray Zahab). Overall, highly recommended!

Nordic Skiing Technique Review

(More customer reviews)I checked this out from the library, and was blown away, particularly when I compared it to the other videos I've seen - now I'm buying it! Nothing has improved my skiing technique more than watching this DVD once. I think this is the most important skiing resource that I've come across. After watching a chapter of this DVD, I am far more effective on snow. I even downloaded the .mp3 narration onto my ipod and it was like having my own personal Olympic coach with me - beautiful.

Greg Stump's Foursome - Greg Stump Box Set Review

(More customer reviews)These are four of the finest examples of ski film making in the history of the genre: "The Blizzard Of Aahhhs", "License To Thrill", "Groove Requiem In The Key Of Ski" and "P-Tex, Lies & Duct Tape". The unique character of Greg Stump shines through on all of these films and he is truly a gift to the world of skiing. Each of these films posesses the soul of a Stax recording. In fact, a big part of what sets these films apart from the myriad other ski films available is the carefully researched soundtracks. Stump doesn't stop at the obvious, but digs deep into the catalogues of such record labels as London's ZTT to uncover some real hidden gems. As a young, budding musician and music lover my life was changed by watching these films and for that I will be eternally grateful to Stump. While others produce ski "flicks", Stump actually produces films - works of (gulp) art which, I sincerely believe, will endure. The sensitivity he has displayed in his work is certainly worthy of admiration. Thanks, Stumpy.

(More customer reviews)I'm the head coach of a college xc racing program and I enjoy new material to dig my teeth into. I picked this DVD set up for our local club's end of season party. Boy! I wish I had bought it sooner, and may be two copies. The kids and coaches played it over and over.
The first DVD in the package is an "action documentary" - fun fun fun. Not only did it really capture the spirit of the sport, but explained the whole cross-training, dryland and on-snow stages in a skiers development. The technical standard of skiing presented in this disk is truly elite. No wonder it constitutes required viewing by the highest level coaching certification up in Canada.
There are over 50 world class athletes and I lost count of the number of World Cup - Olympic Skiers showing their stuff outside of a racing context.
The second DVD in the package has bout 3 hours of instuctional material, demonstrated in detail, by some of the best skiers in the world (Olympic Gold Medalists and World Champs again). The material takes someone from beginner right up to expert levels. The narrative, imagery and special features are rich in depth and show true understanding of the sport, at various levels. It is simply the most comprehensive package for the sport of xc skiing to date.

The menu structure let us go directly to where we needed to. Although, I would have liked a play-all button.
I researched the Internet, and spoke to my fellow coaches and club members, before purchasing this DVD. It was highly recommended and lived up to the praise. Incidently, the entire script is on the web site xczone.tv, so I knew exactly what to expect.
I was surprised, however, to read the spiteful review by Mimi Westphalen from Colorado here on amazon. It appeared completely out of context with the 17 other reviews by Sports Associations, Olympic Coaches, Instructors, World Cup Athletes, all the major ski magazines and other skiing enthusiasts. To say that the DVD covers things in a superficial manner is bizzare beyond all reason. Sounds like there is a hang up here. As for race footage, just copy the events off TV like everyone else. Personnally, I prefer the superior and professional presentation that Unlimited Nordics Skiing provided to our club and coaching staff.
My advice to readers is to ask around, read what reputable sources have to say and view the product web site xczone.tv for the scripts, previews and explainations in order to understand exactly what you are getting.

The DVD alternates between interviews with elite athletes, coaches, sports scientists and a superb professionally narrated script. There is so much knowledge on these disks that you will have to plan several sittings to absorb it. The discussion goes very deep into high-performance sports physiology, coaching and mental training. This training course integrates well with the technique DVD Nordic Skiing Technique. What we found amazing was of all the Olympic and World Champions interviewed for this project, over a dozen sports, that there was universal agreement on training. One has to credit xczone.tv and natural fitness labs for for bringing together national sports governing bodies, scientists and some of the greatest athletes alive to share key knowledge on training. The DVD set covers every topic conceivable. If you are serious about any sport then this is something you must have on your shelf, and consult regularly.
