(More customer reviews)I watched this film earlier today and you know what? For being 20 years old this movie holds up remarkably well. Much better than the previous year's NINJA III: THE DOMINATION, which was instantly dated thanks to the FLASHDANCE influence.
New recruit Michael Dudikoff unwillingly gets mixed up in some illegal arms transaction between crooked Army brass and a group of ninjas. He also accidentally arouses the lustful attention of the Colonel's hot tan daughter! But before he can make sweet love he's got to stop the evil ninja clan!
Some reviewers mention this as a "guilty pleasure" I disagree. With great fight scenes, icky sound effects every time somebody gets stabbed, a fun story and a energetic performance by Steve James there's no way you can classify this as a guilty pleasure. It's too good for that.
Judie Aronson who plays Dudikoff's hot girlfriend gets naked a few times in FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER.

(More customer reviews)I purchased all four videos in this series three years ago. I continue to use these videos and I have learned a lot from them! They contain a lot more than just kata, but the kata are the best part. Also contained on the tapes are warmup exercises, basic technique, bag work and some sparing. When combined with the use of the "Best Karate" books (volumes 5,6,7,8), the learning of new Kata is relatively easy. The kata are demonstrated once from the front view, in half speed, then a second time at full speed from the front view and then full speed from the side view.
The best "selling point" of these videos, is the value.
Volume 1 contains two kata (and a lot of basic technique.)
Volume 2 contains four kata.
Volume 3 contains two kata.
Volume 4 contains four kata.
I wish Instructor Kawasoe would produce videos of some of the black belt katas like Sochin, Unsu, Gojushiho Sho & Kanku Sho.
In summary, if you are looking for help to learn Shotokan kata, I recommend you buy these videos.

Shotokan Karate Kanazawa Mastering Karate 9 DVD Box Set Review

(More customer reviews)Whatever your style of karate, a set of DVDs from Master Kanazawa is a 'must have' item! However, the world-class instruction is poorly let down by the production quality.
The disks are cheaply burned DVD-Rs rather than pressed from a factiory produced glass master. This meant that some portions of my set were unviewable (for me), or jumped and stuttered at best. The sound quality is poor and Kancho's speech is continually 'clipping'.
I feel that Rising Sun Productions has let down Master Kanazawa and his tream badly, making it difficult for the dedicated student to get the maximum from the content provided, which is why I knocked two stars off an otherwise 5-star set.
I'm also suspicious of the positive reviews from 'Colin of Canada' for all the Rising Sun Productions DVDs. He couldn't possibly work for .. no . couldn't be could it?

Within 3 days of watching the basics, I felt ready to start practicing the kata shown in this tape. Mr. Alexander breaks things down very systematically and cuts no corners. The descriptions of basic attacks and blocks are clear and precise. I've already ordered vol. II because this volume made me feel extremely confident in the way I handle the Bo, even as a rookie.

The bad. Video quality is low. I very much doubt it was remastered from the original footage which is a shame because the content is excellent. No menu to speak of just one big long chapter. At a minimum they should have put in chapter marks at the start of each kata.
Bottom line is I think its worth buying but a little more effort they could have made it a great training aid.

(More customer reviews)Having [dealt with] George Alexander of Yamazato Productions before, I can speak from experience. Alexander's techinque is simple: think of a fancy title, make a pretty box, then put a video tape of some poor home-movie video footage that looks like it was shot on a 1983 model Panasonic video camera.
This video is basically a poor-quality camcorder-made filming of one, typica Uechi-Ryu class at an Okinawan dojo. It includes warmups, drills, kata, etc., all shot in bad lighting and from bad angles. There is some tournament sparring near the end that looks like a 7th generation copy.
There is no narration or explanation of anything. This is not an instructional video. If you went to a dojo in your neighborhood and videotaped a normal class, then played it back again, this is what you would have. If you think that this video will reveal any "power" or "secrets" you will be sorely disappointed. In fact, stay away from ANY videos from Yamazato Productions or anything with the name George Alexander attached to it. ...

Deadly Bet (1992) Review

(More customer reviews)Jeff Wincott is a hardcore gambler who is about to leave Vegas, but not without paying off a debt he owes. When he pays it off he ends up getting bullied into a fight. He loses the fight, his money, and his girlfriend.
Ugh, this movie is pretty bad. Everything is predictable, and the acting by the girlfriend is horrible. The only good thing is Jeff Wincott. He gives a good acting performance, and like always he shows some great emotion in his fight scenes. There are a ton of fights in this movie, but none are really good. Gary Daniels gets a decent cameo fight, but the only fight I liked was the finale. Not even the finale was that good, but it picks up by the end of it. So in short, I recommend passing on this movie unless you are a really huge fan of Jeff Wincott.

Picture quality on the Madacy DVD is decent. Best thing about this DVD is that it has 45 minutes of trailers.

(More customer reviews)This DVD was very useful for me in preparing for my brown and black belt tests (3rd, 2nd, 1st kyu, and shodan) and I will need it again for my nidan test in a couple of years. It is very professionally done by people who have been teaching traditional Shotokan karate together for about 30 years. Clearly, senseis Ertl and Bendickson know and can demonstrate every nuance and detail of the kata. Each kata is presented by introduction, embusen, move by move, breakdown, and full speed demonstration. The narration is descriptive and crystal clear. I've seen and helped produce instructive videos myself, and I can say that this is as good as anything I've seen done by the pros. It is quite uncommon to have expert-level instruction combined with professional-level production. Worth every penny if you are serious about learning these katas.
