Bar to Bar 2002 Review

Bar to Bar 2002

Bar to Bar 2002 was pretty lack-luster. I'm a pretty hard-core fan, but the only reason I keep the discs around is to have a documentary of the season. There are parts to the 2 disc set that are absolutely and utterly stupid i.e. slide show with music.
Redemption...? Clear Channel stepped it up with Bar to Bar 2003. I would give it four stars. The press conference coverage makes the difference! Seeing the SLC press conference made Bar to Bar 2003 worth every penny.

Abbott & Costello Meet the Monsters Collection (1955) Review

Abbott and Costello Meet the Monsters Collection (1955)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This collection consists of Abbott & Costello Meet ...Frankenstein, The Mummy, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Invisible Man.
The Frankenstein and Invisible Man movies are possibly the best with more cohesive plots and more Abbott & Costello than the other two movies. However, all these movies are winners in my book. All the movies have classic Abbott & Costello repartee and it's great to have all four of these classic monsters with Abbott & Costello in a set!

Pistol Pete's (Maravich) Basketball Diaries Review

Pistol Pete's (Maravich) Basketball Diaries

While this DVD does have some B&W footage of Pistol Pete, it is limited. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised
when it clocks in at 65 min. A good deal of the disc is the author talking to another guy about Pete. The footage
they have obtained isn't the most flattering, though on occasion you do see glimpses of his star power. I hope
one day we can really have a decent video of the Pistol.

25 Strong: Film About Basketball (2006) Review

25 Strong: Film About Basketball (2006)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It should really be sub titled....
"A Film About Basketball and Life".
What you have here is a group of Black men engaged in doing something that Black men aren't supposed to be interested in doing. That is caring enough about the future to spend their "free time" working with younger people, providing them with direction and fun at the same time.
This movie takes place in Brooklyn's financially impoverished, heart of gold Bed-Sty neighborhood. It's the story of how a summer basketball program has sustained itself and become a community institution, not only for the basketball players it has produced, but also for the type of young people who emerge from it.
An excellent movie especially for those who are cynical about today's younger people.

South Beach Box: Core And Upper Body Boxing Workout Review

South Beach Box: Core And Upper Body Boxing Workout
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was expecting a little more, however after I did the workout and referred back to the box, I realized I wasn't paying attention when I ordered it. It clearly states this is an upper body, ab workout. If you're just getting started working out you might enjoy this DVD for the simplicity, however if you've been working out a while and have done other kickboxing type DVD's you might be bored with this.
There is nothing technically wrong with the DVD. No audio or set issues.Guillermo is great. Unlike a lot of the other DVD's I have like the Tao Bo and Turbo Jam DVD's he's very pleasant to listen too. He's very calm, and you don't have to listen to someone counting to 8 over and over and over again.
He moves at a nice pace and is consistent and concise, although there were a few times it would have been helpful on the long combinations if he was queueing... it almost seemed like he was trying to concentrate himself. For such a beginner level DVD I felt like he should have went into some detail about form, like keeping your thumbs up. He was very consistent about mentioning to turn your hips for the cross punches. If you've never done anything like this, there is a really good Tae Bo (Billy Blanks - Tae Bo: Foundation / Energy) DVD that explains punching form in great detail which is important so that you don't causing injury to your shoulders.
Back to this DVD. You're basically repeating the same punches and then gradually adding on until you have a fairly lengthy combo. I think a person would quickly get bored with it, however if you do the workout and wear some type of weighted gloves you'll get a good workout for your arms and burn a few calories. He alternates the punching sets with some really basic jumping rope in place type cardio moves. As for the core work there's a small amount of standing abs which are side crunches and twists. I feel like the core section should have been longer and he could have easily incorporated some additional standing moves. The entire workout is 30 minutes.
