Wcw: Road Wild (1999) Review

Wcw: Road Wild (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My "Blast From WCW's Past" continues here with the final Road Wild event back in 1999. Around this time, Ric Flair was no longer the WCW President & Hollywood Hogan returned to WCW & regained the WCW Championship, went back to wearing the classic red & yellow colors, left the nWo and alligned himself with Sting & Goldberg while Kevin Nash (the last remaining active member of the nWo Wolfpac) turned heel & alligned himself with Sid Vicious & Rick Steiner leading into each member of these alliances facing each other at the event with one person retiring at the end of the night. Stevie Ray left the black & white nWo (eventually leading to the end of that group) to rejoin his brother Booker T to reform Harlem Heat. And Dennis Rodman returned to WCW interested in Randy Savage's valet, Gorgeous George. Also Shane Douglas arrived to WCW & helped form the Revolution group with his former ECW alumni in Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and Perry Saturn. And as a side note, this was the last PPV of the Eric Bischoff era of WCW since he would be removed from power right before the Fall Brawl PPV.
Rey Mysterio Jr., Billy Kidman, Eddie Guerrero vs. Vampiro & Insane Clown Posse - The group that would go on to be known as the Filthy Animals go against the group known as the Deadpool. This was a fun opening match as the Filthy Animals always deliver while Vampiro was coming into his own at this point in WCW, I.C.P. weren't slouches either, and Raven playing mind games on the outside. Good opening match and as a side note, this was the last WCW PPV appearence of Raven as he would jump to ECW a short time later.
WCW Tag Team Champions Triad vs. Harlem Heat - Unlike the previous tag team matches where the Triad used the "Freebird" rule where any two members of the group could be active in the match at anytime, DDP was scheduled for another match later in the night so he wasn't available for this match so this was a regular tag team rules match. This was a nice back & forth match that saw DDP's appearence backfire & help Harlem Heat regain the WCW Tag Team Titles they lost 3 years earlier.
The Revolution vs. West Texas Rednecks - Unfortunally, since this was an old VHS tape...the tape was extremely dirty & eaten so I can't comment on this match.
Buff Bagwell vs. Ernest Miller - See above.
No Disqualification Match: WCW United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. Diamond Dallas Page - This feud revolved about Page talking about Benoit's mother? This was a real physical bout as Benoit is as intense as it gets while DDP was heavily in his prime during his WCW run. The "No DQ" rule came into play at various time by Page like shoving the referee around, using a belt as a weapon, and DDP's Triad members getting involved before Benoit overall all odds alone to retain the United States Championship.
Sting vs. Sid Vicious - Sting started off by taking Sid on the outside & over the guardrails before the match got back in the ring where Sid regained his momentum & dominated with his power offense. Sting got a shot here & there but only to eventually overpowered straight to victory. This was just Sting being a body for Sid to get over on in this average match.
Goldberg vs. Rick Steiner - They started off right off the bat punching & kicking each other before Steiner dominated by using Goldberg's own kneebrace against him before Goldberg made his spear/jackhammer comeback for the victory. The match was short & watchable but nothing special.
Dennis Rodman vs. Randy Savage - Rodman started the match off wild & remained that way as both men knocked out various people like referees (four of them) & cameramen along with brawling on the outside, up the ramp onto the entranceway, and even tipping over a portable toilet backstage. George appeared & helped Savage get the win in this was a wild match. As a side note, Savage promised that the driver of the mysterious white Hummer that kept appearing throughout WCW would be bodyguarding George...but you never saw him.
Retirement Match: WCW Champion Hulk Hogan vs. Kevin Nash - If anyone watched the WWE Confidential piece on WCW, you'll remember that Booker T said that, "wrestlers had no intention of "bringing the house down" & just walked through the matches to make sure they got to the bar on time." That quote perfectly described this match. For a main event match in which your fighting for your career, they never left first gear & the entire match just seemed dull. Despite a couple of "Hogan" chants far between, it was dead quiet during this match. Something huge was missing here as the guys just seemed to walk through this match & it was a real bad way to end the show.
In the end, the opening match along with the matches involving the Triad members delivered along with Randy Savage & Dennis Rodman had a wild entertaining brawl but the rest of the card however was watchable to average. This is one PPV I would check out if you have some spare cash to spend or if this is at a real low price.

This event was the best Spring Stampede ever and t best PPV of the year. The Bam-Bam/Hak match was amazing and the Kidman-Rey Reay match was unbelievable but i thought the main event was ugly. It should have been a lot better with four of the greatest superstars in the game. Anyway, dont spend 50$. A great PPV but for that much money i expected a lot more.

WWE: Great American Bash 2005 Review

WWE: Great American Bash 2005
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was more like what you would view on an episode of smackdown. Half of the card was pathetic because of the mediocre roster smackdown had to work with.
1. U.S. Title 4 way
John Cena vs. Booker T vs. RVD vs. Rene Dupree
This was a great opener. This is one match I did not feel like I was going to fall asleep watching. All 4 men put on a great show and Cena is the victor in the match.
9/10
2. Luther Reigns vs. Charlie Haas
This was thrown together out of desperation. HORRIBLE and BORING match. Reigns wins.
2/10
3. Cruiserweight Title
Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero
solid match. great showing by mysterio and chavo. Its hard to believe that Rey is feuding with the big dogs(Orton, Henry, Angle) now.
8/10
4. Billy Gunn vs. Kenzo Suzuki
Why?!?!?! was this match sanctiioned? Useless card filler. Smackdown hardly had any talent to work with. Kenzo wins.
2/10
5. Torrie Wilson vs. Sable
Torrie is hot but she is not a wrestler. Sable was better when it was 1998, 1999. Bad ending. Sable wins. 3/10
decent
6. Hardcore Holly vs. Mordecai
Again, another useless card filler. A yawner of a match. Mordecai wins. 2/10
7. WWE Title Texas Bullrope Match
Eddie Guerrero(RIP) vs. JBL
Finally!!!!!!!!! a good match to review. A great match by these 2. They totally stole the show and turned it into a brawl. Guerrero should have retained and had a little longer title reign. JBL wins. 9/10
8. Concrete Crypt Match
Undertaker vs. Dudley Boyz
Confusing main event. Heyman keeps running his mouth in the match threatening Undertaker that he will drown Paul Bearer in the cement. Undertaker wins but the ending was shocking.
7/10
To me this was more like a regular Smackdown card to view on tv.

ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) - Heatwave '98 (1998) Review

ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) - Heatwave '98 (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With the resurgence of ECW in the public eye on WWF television, more casual wrestling fans may find an interest in learning about the revolutionary promotion that changed the face of sports entertainment in the mid to late `90s. Touted by many (with GOOD reason) as ECW's best Pay-Per-View, Heatwave '98 featured 6 GREAT matches. This DVD recounts all 6 matches, plus all the promos and backstage antics from the Pay-Per-View (aired August 2, 1998 from the Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio). Included on the DVD are the match histories detailing the feuds and situations at the time written by Michael Johnson II of 1wrestling.com, the same guy who wrote the wrestler bios for the other ECW DVDs and the ECW website. Johnson's match history write-ups provide nice background and sets the tone nicely for the matches. I recommend reading his write-ups BEFORE watching the matches.
Here are the matches and line-up for the program:
Heatwave `98
Your commentators are Joey Styles and "The Franchise" Shane Douglas (w/ Francine)
1.Justin Credible (w/ Jason, Nicole Bass and Chastity) vs. Jerry Lynn: Summer Series Finale. This was the cap off match to the big feud these two had during the summer of '98. Solid wrestling match between these two with several high spots, great technical wrestling and all participants getting involved. The brutal finish to the match is one for the highlight reel. 4 ½ stars.
2.Lance Storm vs. Chris Candido (w/ Tammy Lynn Sytch): Grudge Match Between Former Partners. This match was also a cap off to a feud between both men. Again, this is another solid match between two great workers with great technical wrestling and solid aerial spots. Like the previous match, the ending is also one for the highlight reel. 4 ½ stars.
3.New Jack promo with the fans outside the arena, featuring appearances by the Dudleys, Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten.
4.Rob Van Dam, Sabu and Fonzie Promo
5.Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome: AWESOME match between these two as always. This is another GREAT match in the loooong history in the continent spanning war between these two gladiators. Lots of power moves, lots of aerial moves, tables and chairs mark this match. In another moment for the highlight reel, there is this one TOTALLY KILLER spot (emphasis on KILLER) that the crowd and even the announcers cringed at. 4 ¾ stars.
6.Taz promo
7.Dudleys promo
8.RVD and Sabu (w/ Fonzie) vs. Hayabusa and Jinsei Shinzaki: ECW Tag Title Match. Shinzaki may be better known to American fans as Hakushi from the mid-90s WWF. AWESOME match. It's aerial and martial arts warfare from 4 of the best workers in the world. Hands down, to me this was THE best match of the night and realistically, one of the best matches I've ever seen!!! Jaw dropping back and forth war with TONS of high spots, TON of martial arts, tables and chairs in this one. The match was a virtual highlight reel!!! 5 stars.
9.Highlights Package featuring Taz' war with the Triple Threat.
10.Taz vs. Bam Bam Bigelow: FTW Championship Match. Falls Count Anywhere Death Match. Hard-hitting, intense and BRUTAL brawl across the arena, notable for yet another jaw dropping, unbelievable moment. It was a battle so intense, not even the ground could hold it... 4 ¼ stars for the match, 5 stars for the finish!!!
11.The Dudleys (Buh Buh Ray, D'Von and Big Dick, w/ Jeff Jones, Joel Gertner and Sign Guy) vs. The Sandman, "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer and Spike Dudley: Dudleyville Street Fight. This is a big pay-off match to the intertwined feuds all three faces had with the Dudleys. Fun match complete with the classic Dudley and Sandman ring intros. Classical ECW arena-spanning brawl featuring tables, ladders, chairs, canes, etc... ECW at its best. 4 ½ stars for the match. 5 stars for the Intro
Overall, this Pay-Per-View has been noted as ECW's best for good reason. All 6 matches on this card were just top notch. The two opening matches were solid scientific classics, Tanaka and Awesome was a WAR (plus that INSANE bump), the Tag Match was just AWE INSPIRING and the two top matches featured the hard-hitting, hardcore style that made ECW famous.
Though the card may look small (with only six matches) and the run time on the DVD may be just a little over two hours (with NO special features other than the match histories), Heatwave '98 proves the old adage about "quality" vs. "quantity." ECW became famous for giving its fans their monies worth in action. Heatwave '98, with six of the best matches you'll see on a wrestling card, does just that.
Highly Recommended

NWA/WCW Clash of the Champions 1 March 1988 I Review

NWA/WCW Clash of the Champions 1 March 1988 I
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While the WWF had a tradition of having television supercard specials on NBC called "Saturday Night's Main Event", NWA/WCW would also do the same thing on their station of TBS for years called "Clash Of The Champions." Now for those who don't already know the story, WWE would constantly have schedule conflicts for months with the NWA as WWE put their first ever Survivor Series PPV on the same day as the traditional NWA Starrcade show blackballing them off several cable companies along with scheduling the first ever Royal Rumble show on USA network the same day as their Bunkhouse Stampede PPV. The NWA responded by putting on their own special during the WrestleMania IV PPV in the first ever "Clash Of The Champions" event...the event that's more memorable than anything else for a match that saw the birth of a wrestle we now refer to as an ICON. Now I was able to see & tape this entire event when WWE 24/7 (now "Classics On Demand") showed this entire event as a 20th Anniversary special so I don't know what was edited (if anything was edited since it wasn't a 3 hour show) from the VHS tape since Turner Home Entertainment had a habit of editing their tapes down to two hours.
College Rules Match: NWA Television Champion Mike Rotunda vs. Jimmy Garvin - Before he became more famous as a tax collector named I.R.S. & after he was a patriot in the U.S. Express, Capt. Mike Rotunda was a member of the stable "Varsity Club" who were wrestlers that played off their amature wrestling background. This match was make just for that gimmick as this was under amature wrestling rules where there were rounds & a "1 count" pinfall instead. The stipulation here hurt the match more than helped as I just really didn't enjoy the match.
NWA United States Tag Team Champions Midnight Express vs. Fantastics - As I've said before, the Fantastics were the perfect replacements for the Rock N' Roll Express when they left the NWA during this short time as far as inring ability & chemistry with the Midnight Express. Both teams were young & quick and put on a great solid & entertaining match here with the Fantastics coming so close but made one mistake that cost them.
Barbed Wire Match: Dusty Rhodes & Road Warriors vs. Ivan Koloff & Powers Of Pain - This wasn't a "no ropes" barbed wire match that we're used to seeing in this day & age as they had one thin string of barbed wire wrapped up across all three ropes together so it looks very "tame" by today's standards but hardcore for that day & age. This was pretty short & sweet as the Warriors & Dusty (complete with his own Road Warrior facepaint) got dominated & got their revenge for the eye injury Animal suffered which forced him to wear a hockey mask in this match.
(Also available on "The American Dream: The Dusty Rhodes Story")
NWA Tag Team Champions Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard vs. Lex Luger & Barry Windham - The team also known as the "Twin Towers" dominated the first half of this match to the point where Luger he got the Torture Rack on Tully in the first minute & Barry had a sleeperhold so tight on Tully that he was able to keep it on when they both rolled out of the ring. The Horsemen later caught up & did what they did best in tag team wrestling by cutting the ring in half & making their quick tags having this match go back & forth between both teams with the crowd hot the entire time. James J. Dillion got involved in the end as this match didn't go long but it was non-stop action from start to finish.
(Also available on "Ric Flair & The Four Horsemen" & "Legends Of Wrestling: Heatseekers")
NWA Champion Ric Flair vs. Sting - This was the match that made Sting a household name overnight. James J. Dillion was suspended over the ring in the cage to prevent interference in what has gone down as a classic encounter that has stood the test of time today. They went to a time limit draw & had a split decision with judges (which defeats the purpose of the judges in the first place but whatever). When Flair said on the Horsemen DVD that "we made a career making guys...", this was the best example possible that fits that statement.
(Also available on "Nature Boy Ric Flair: The Definative Collection")
In the end, this was a classic event that any fan of wrestling (not sports entertainment) during this time will enjoy...however, you can get the 3 top matches on here on DVD while the teams of the Midnight Express & Fantastics had a better quality match that recently became available on DVD as well (WWE's "Allied Powers" set) so if you can find a cheaper copy of this tape then I recommend but otherwise, collect the matches on the other DVD sets.

WWE Royal Rumble 2009 & 2010 (WWE Value Premium Pack) Review

WWE Royal Rumble 2009 and 2010 (WWE Value Premium Pack)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For those who don't know, this is another Wal-Mart exclusive double pack from WWE with the concept behind this being to re-release a a PPV from 2010 combined with the 2009 edition of the same event. In this case, it's the Royal Rumble PPV.
2009:
ECW Champion Jack Swagger vs. Matt Hardy - For Jack Swagger's PPV debut, he delivered a a solid wrestling match here with Matt Hardy and continued to showcase his inring potential with his storytelling on Hardy's arm throughout the match. Solid opening match.
Womens Champion Beth Phoenix vs. Melina - It just seemed like they weren't clicking here as you openly saw some botched moves, off timing, along with the crowd at one point more focused on cheering Santino at ringside than the match itself. One memorable moment though was when Beth stretched Melina's leg to the point where she had Melina kicking herself in the head with her own foot. In the end, this was their weakest match together as they were just off here but what's ironic is that their worst day is still a more watchable & better performance than you would get from some of the other divas on their best day.
World Champion John Cena vs. J.B.L. - If anyone remembers their matches from WrestleMania 21 along with Judgment Day & One Night Stand from 2008, you know not to expect much from these two unless it's a hardcore type match like Judgment Day '05 & Great American Bash 2008. But I'll give it credit as these two put on their best "wrestling" match here as it wasn't one sided here & both men trading offense. The wild card with Shawn Michaels at ringside helped this match more than hurt it as this was again, their best "wrestling" match that we should have gotten during their previous 3 attempts at a normal match.
No Disqualification Match: WWE Champion Jeff Hardy vs. Edge - Chavo Guerrero was in Edge's corner for this match & Vickie Guerrero made it a No DQ match. I can never remember Jeff Hardy (who looked very similar to the Joker from "The Dark Knight") & Edge having a bad match and this was no exception as they just worked well together with the No DQ rule making various highlights like Hardy's dangerous leap off the ladder onto Chavo before the ending that was a shock to everyone involved with the match. Great match between these two but again, when did they have a bad one?
Royal Rumble Battle Royal: This Rumble heavily made up for last years as we got a bunch of welcomed surprises here in terms of either performances or special appearances and at one point, we had the most wrestlers in the ring at the same time during the match that I ever remember seeing. Various highlights include the opening minutes with the young talents getting the spotlight for a while, Cryme Tyme's coin flip, how Mysterio re-entered the ring after being tossed out, the "Rhodes Family Reunion", Rob Van Dam's appearance & "no ring rust" performance including one awesome looking double team move he did with Mysterio at one point, Santino's Rumble performance, "Hi I'm Dolph Ziggler", seeing the 400 pound Big Show "skin the cat" at one point, and the dominance of Randy Orton's Legacy. Great Rumble match overall that delivered.
In the end, this was a very enjoyable Rumble overall with the only bad match being Melina & Beth having an off night.
2010:
ECW Champion Christian vs. Ezekel Jackson - This was a real solid opening match as we all know what Christian is capable of but Ezekel Jackson stepped it up here in getting himself over as a power man that all about what his entrance music implies...Domination. Ezekel overpowered Christian various times throughout the match causing Christian to play defense, use his speed, & take high risk to get an advantage. It was a solid opening match & good showcasing for Jackson even in defeat as they would go on to have better matches (like their Extreme Rules match on the final ECW broadcast) but one funny moment was Matt Striker bringing up a note in the history of the ECW Championship to no immediate response from the others leading to Michael Cole saying, "I'm trying to forget that moment."
As a side note, this would end up being the last ECW match on PPV as WWE ended the brand right before the next PPV.
United States Champion The Miz vs. M.V.P. - Although this was building for the previous month, this was a last minute bonus match. M.V.P. dominated early before Miz was able to recover with these two going back & forth against each other before Miz was able to pull out a win in another solid match...but the biggest highlight of this match was the aftermath between these two that ensured that we didn't see the last of this issue between these two men.
WWE Champion Sheamus vs. Randy Orton - Before the match, Orton told Ted Dibiase that he didn't want Legacy getting involved in his match based off the conversations he had with Rhodes & Dibiase separately earlier in the night. This was a rare "heel vs. heel" match for the championship that saw the crowd starting to favor Randy Orton over Sheamus. Both men focused on a body part such as Sheamus' ankle & Orton's arm to the point where his arm was rammed into the steel steps. Cody's appearance (remember, he told Dibiase for them to not get involved...he didn't tell Cody) cost Orton the match resulting in Orton taking it out on Legacy before Orton would be left laying himself.
Womens Champion Michelle McCool vs. Mickie James - All I can say here is that after all the "Piggy James" comments & actions from both McCool & Layla, they got exactly what they deserved. Just think of this match as the female version of Ultimate Warrior vs. Honky Tonk Man. If your looking for an actual match...check out their encounter from the month before at T.L.C.
World Champion Undertaker vs. Rey Mysterio - Just by looking at these two, you got the type of match expected here in that it was "David vs. Goliath" and just like usual when Mysterio plays the "David" role, he puts up one hell of a fight. Taker showcased his superior power early by just tossing Mysterio over the top in the opening moments & blocking Mysterio's high flyin' moves. Mysterio did the old Bret Hart strategy by working on Taker's legs, made Taker's nose bleed from various kicks to the face, and even hit two 619's before he got caught with the Last Ride. This was the best non-Rumble match of the night & was a good encounter.
Royal Rumble Battle Royal - As usual, WWE put together a great "by the numbers" video package featuring facts & highlights from the previous Rumble matches. Various moments such as C.M. Punk preaching during the match, the interaction between Punk & Great Khali & Beth Phoenix, Miz & M.V.P. picking up where they left off earlier, Legacy working together, Shawn fighting to get his match against Undertaker at WrestleMania...at ANYONE'S expense, Mark Henry's slam on Big Show, and the "Rated R" return. This was one of the best Rumbles in recent history as it had plenty of stories, action, and entertaining moments in the match that just came together perfectly.
DVD extras include the confrontation between Bret Hart & Mr. McMahon the next night on RAW. In the end, this event resembled the earlier Royal Rumbles where the under-card matches were solid but nothing memorable as a majority of these matches (except the World Title) weren't the best encounters in their series of matches while the Rumble itself was the highlight of the night.
In the end, I enjoyed the 2009 from top to bottom while the 2010 edition came off a little flat outside of the Rumble match itself but your getting two events for the price of one here so I recommend.

WWF: Survivor Series 2000 (2000) Review

WWF: Survivor Series 2000 (2000)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was the PPV where Rock collided against Rikishi, Undertaker battled Kurt Angle, and Stone Cold Steve Austin destroying Triple H. This wasn't the greatest Survivor Series, but it was much better than Survivor Series 99'. Some of the matches where dull while some where good, my reviews down below.
6-person intergender tag team match
T&A and Trish Stratus vs. Steve Blackman, Crash Holly and Molly Holly
Good opener with the crowd getting into this match, the women kind of ruined this match.
Survivor Series elimination match
Radicalz vs. Billy Gunn, Chyna, Road Dogg and K-Kwik
Fast paced action, but got slow towards the end.
Chris Jericho vs. Kane
Okay match, but a little bit boring. Their match at Armageddon was better.
WWE European title match
William Regal vs. Hardcore Holly
Short match, with a terrible ending.
Rock vs. Rikishi
Great match with a lot of action, pretty short though.
WWE Women's title match
Lita vs. Ivory
Pretty good, but the ending was a DUD.
WWE Championship match
Kurt Angle vs. Undertaker
Long and slow. This was a good match, but Kurt Angle slowed it down too much. Shocking ending though.
Survivor Series elimination match
Hardy Boyz and Dudley Boyz vs. Edge & Christian and Right To Censor
Better than the first elimination match at the beginning of the night with a lot more action and tables!
No Disqualification match
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Triple H
I was expecting this match to be real quick and with Austin beating the hell out of HHH, but instead this match turned out to be kind of slow. These two have had better matches and this wasn't it. The ending is pretty crazy.
So there you have it, this was an okay Survivor Series with a couple of good matches and some dull matches. Check out Survivor Series 2001.

WWF: WrestleMania - The Legacy Box Set (Wrestlemanias 1-14) (1999)
Average Reviews:

While not a big fan of the "WWF Attitude" box set, the bottom line is that A) It's cheaper than the original retail price of the original new releases (check out the original pre-views, hit a rental store, or look at old wrestling magazines for more info if you don't believe, but these tapes cost as much as one PPV TODAY ($39.95 for WM IV alone!). Yes, it's over $100, and almost $200, but divide that cost by 14-15 tapes, and the resulting figure is quite nice. Now, consider buying each tape individually at $10 a tape, or even $8 a tape and compare the difference. I promise it is significant. ESCPECIALLY if you are looking for the Coliseum video version, which can run anywhere from $20-80 each, depending on the seller. There are slight differences and edits in the footage on each different version of WM, but it's always nice to be able to get a collection of items all at one time, and at a discounted price. Recommended.

WWF: WrestleMania X-Seven (2001) Review

WWF: WrestleMania X-Seven (2001)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The three words "of all time" get thrown around a lot in this day and age, and I am not innocent of constantly uttering them myself, in effect watering down their significance. But when I say that Wrestlemania X7 is the greatest Wrestlemania -- even greatest PPV -- OF ALL TIME, I am not exaggerating. Everything from the opening montage to the post-main event celebration was electric live on PPV and none of that electricity is lost on DVD.
This was a Wrestlemania that WWF needed to succeed, what with the failure of the previous year's Wrestlemania 2000. The WWF attained that success with X7, in everything from the card to live attendance to PPV buys. Most of the matches had well built storylines and were just great matches in themselves. Another treat was the Gimmick Battle Royal featuring special appearances by the always-welcome Bobby Heenan and Mean Gene.
One aspect to this PPV that made it such a success was the diversity of the card. Wrestlemania 2000 was bogged down in tag team matches, triple threats and unproven wrestlers. X7, however, had something for everyone. Technical wrestling fans will drool over Benoit vs. Angle for years to come. Hardcore fans love the TLC II match. Fans of the over-the-top storylines were into the father vs. son match. And fans of the industry's top two stars at the time, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock, will always remember fondly their main event that night on April Fool's day in 2001.
The DVD extras aren't much, but what do you need with extras when the PPV event itself gives you one hell of a show? Even with all of the positives on this show, there are some negatives. In the aformentioned father vs. son match, fans did not react well to Shane's WCW allegiance and this slightly took away from the impact of his win over Vince, although it was more Linda McMahon's win than Shane's. Also, some of the other matches just didn't click for whatever reason. Although a very decent opener, Regal vs. Jericho was a bit off, as the latter was going 100MPH and Regal just didn't seem to be in key that night. Chyna vs. Ivory was an atypical squash match akin to those we used to see on WWF Superstars in the late 80's. But one of the greatest advantages DVD has over VHS is the ability to go to the next scene instantaneously at the press of a button.
Wrestlemania is WWF(E) and pro wrestling at its best. Get this DVD.

The Best of CM Punk (2003) Review

The Best of CM Punk (2003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like many fans, I wasn't sure exactly what Big Vision's "Best of CM Punk" DVD contained when I first heard about it (& I still haven't seen any updated information). After buying it, I can provide some much needed information. The main part seems to be Best of CM Punk in FIP DVD which contains these matches from 2004: [...]. I haven't viewed this part yet, but will watch it over the weekend.

The thing that makes this DVD great is the Bonus Features.

* Bonus Matches from Ring of Honor:
vs. Bryan Danielson (Guest Referee Ricky Steamboat) ...ROH Reborn Stage 1 4/23/04
vs. Roderick Strong...The Future Is Now 6/12/05
* Bonus IWA-Mid South Career Retrospective:
This is the best part of the DVD which sets it apart from the ROH/FIP version of this release. It is a 40 minute highlight reel on CM Punk and all he has done in the IWA with highlights of many of his important matches throughout the years from 2001 until 2005. It was originally a bonus feature from the DVD version of IWA Mid-South's"No Blood No Guts No Glory 2005" on July 2, 2005 in Valparaiso, IN.

Of course, you'll get clips of many matches against Chris Hero including the famous Tables & Ladder Match & 93 minute 'When Hero Met Punk' match. There's several matches featuring Colt Cabana. As an unexpected surprise, all three of CM Punk's matches against the late, great Eddy Guerrero are added which includes a 3-Way with an unmasked Rey Mysterio Jr., an IWA:MS Title Match, and a 3-Way with Colt Cabana in front of about 100 fans as written about in Guerrero's book.

You'll see highlights from Punk in several annual IWA-MS tournaments. First up is the Ted Petty Invitational tournament from 2002 against M-Dogg 20, "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, Chris Hero, & BJ Whitmer. Next is the the initial Strong Style tourament in 2003 against Tarek the Great, Stan Dupp (WWE Raw's Trevor Murdoch), & BJ Whitmer. Then you get the Tag Team Title tournament in 2004 w/ Colt Cabana vs Nigel McGuinness & Chad Collyer, Havana Pitbulls of Reyes & Puma and Southern Comfort of Tracy Smothers & Chris Hamrick.

The end features a series of single matches which included the first one on one IWA meeting in over 16 months between CM Punk & Chris Hero, a match from the 8th Anniversary show against AJ Styles, another match against Chris Hero and this highlight reel concludes with a pair of entertianing matches against Delirious, the latter took place at "Dedication" a tribute to Chris Candido that contains Punk borrowing Candido's classic "full moon" spot. This IWA: Mid-South Career Retrospective was worth the price alone.
*Trailers
This section is a series of trailers from Big Vision Entertainment, many of which can be viewed at BVE's YouTube video page: [...].
* Music Video
This is from a southern California band, Five Victims Four Graves, who provides music for this DVD. They remind me of Hatebreed, a band CM Punk used for his entrance theme music in early 2003. Unfortunately, this is just the regular music video for the song "Calling Back This S.O.S." without any footage of CM Punk. This song can be downloaded for free and the video can be viewed at the band's MySpace page: [...]

Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows (1998) Review

Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows (1998)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bret "Hitman" Hart has been my favorite wrestler ever since I first watched this documentary on A&E a few years ago. He had always been a great wrestler, but after having watched this riveting tale of Hart's association with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1996-97, he became my hero.
Bret Hart's tale in this video is both happy and sad. In the beginning moments of the film, we see a light-hearted and very accomodating Hitman talking about his family and how he started in wrestling. He talks about growing up a Hart, and how life at the house was not always so wonderful. For the first 20-30 minutes, this film shows us the happier side of Bret Hart. And that's when things get interesting.
World Championship Wrestling (WCW) made Hart an incredible offer that he almost couldn't refuse. But, as a man of integrity and moral values, he inititally declined the WCW's offer out of loyalty to Vince McMahon, the owner of the WWF. Instead of taking a three-year contract worth $9 million from the WCW, he signed a 20-year contract for significantly less with the WWF.
Bret Hart's topsy-turvy road in 1997 is a captivating one to travel on for the audience. Anyone who knows wrestling knows the name Bret Hart and what has happened with him throughout his career. This documentary, so beautifully done by director Paul Jay, gives you the dirt on what Hart's life was like back when wrestling was just starting to come into its more adult nature.
This film gives you the entire scoop on why Bret Hart was turned heel (turned into a bad guy). This film shows you exactly what happened at the now infamous 1997 Survivor Series, which forever changed the direction of WWF programming. You will see it all as the happy and appreciative Bret Hart from the first 20-30 minutes is slowly chipped away until a depressed and demoralized Bret Hart is left in the wake of what the WWF and Vince McMahon did to him.
After the film, there is a special interview with Bret Hart and director Paul Jay that takes place 18 months later following the double-cross at the 1997 Survivor Series. Bret Hart goes on to tell what life has been like since his departure from the WWF and how things in his life have drastically changed. One shock, for example, is his admittance of his divorce. This comes as such a surprise since we see him and his wife sticking so closely together in the film.
In short, this is one of the best wrestling documentaries out there. They don't get any more real than this, and any wrestling fan will find Bret Hart's real-life battle with Vince McMahon intriguing.
On a personal note, Bret Hart, in my mind, will always be the Excellence of Execution. He will always be "The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best There Ever Will Be." He deserved to have a grand exit from professional wrestling. It's just too bad that neither the WWF nor the WCW had the decency to give him one.

WWF: Fully Loaded 1999 (1999) Review

WWF: Fully Loaded 1999 (1999)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The WWF did an excellent job on their July 1999 PPV event. Fully Loaded 1999 definitely surpassed the 1998 original. With 5 titles on the line, the action was hotter than ever. In the main event it was the First Blood-End of an Era match for the WWF Championship between Champion-Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker. Edge defends his newly won Intercontinental Title against former champ Jeff Jarrett. Tag Team Champions-The Hardy Boyz with Michael Hayes defend against the Acolytes. The European Title is up for grabs between Mideon and D-Lo Brown. For the Hardcore Title, Champion-Al Snow takes on the Big Boss Man. Also the Fully Loaded Strap Match between HHH and the Rock. The winner of this match becomes the #1 contender for the WWF Title. The battle for DX as Road Dogg Jesse James and X-Pac take on Chyna and the 1999 King of the Ring-Mr. Ass. A grudge match between Kane and the Big Show with Hardcore Holly as the special guest referee. Definitely a must-see event for any wrestling fan.

WWF Ringleaders Collection (The Rock - The People's Champ / Stone Cold - Hell Yeah / Mick Foley - Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops) (2002) Review

WWF Ringleaders Collection (The Rock - The People's Champ / Stone Cold - Hell Yeah / Mick Foley - Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops) (2002)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been a wrestling fan since 1996 and have watched all kinds of wrestling. I have a wrestling DVD/VHS collection spanning over 50 all together. This is the most complete and accurate review of this DVD you will find. I hope you find this review helpful; remember to vote helpful or not helpful. (Note-Each DVD I review has a "Match of the DVD" award somewhere in it.)
WWE Ringleaders Collection
This is a Box Set of 3 DVDs: Hell Yeah- Stone Cold's Saga Continues, The Rock- The People's Champ, and Mick Foley- Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops. The only really good one is Foley's, but all together this set is worth the buy.
WWE - Hell Yeah: Stone Cold's Saga Continues
This DVD is follows the same idea as "Austin 3:16- Uncensored" and "`Cause Stone Cold said so" in that they are period pieces of Austin's Career. This DVD starts you at Austin's first WWF Title win at Wrestlemania XIV, and eventually ends with his match at Backlash 1999 with The Rock. You don't get any full match; you just get clips of what happened in the matches. You also get clips of what happened in between the PPVs.
Hell Yeah is one of the better Stone Cold period pieces. He talks out of character about how things affected him. The DVD itself is fairly well done. Stone Cold narrates it, and you can really see the type of person he is at times. You get a bunch of generic stock music during the match clips, but it is well done and works well with the match.
Extras consist of wrestlers commenting on what they think about Austin. Some of the people that talked were The Rock, Jim Ross, Triple H, Jeff Jarrett, and Road Dogg. You also get 5 segments that involved Austin; this includes Dr. Austin and Austin throwing Rock's Intercontinental Championship into a river. You also get a bunch of extras from previous Austin titles like Austin 3:16 and `Cause Stone Cold said so. Finally, you will get a little extra DVD that shows a little past Backlash 99; It even shows clips from the infamous Over the Edge 1999.
This is an okay DVD. WWE put out a lot of period pieces around this time and they are fun to watch when you get bored. I think the fact that this DVD has no extra matches, but is full of parts from other DVDs, is the reason I give this 3 stars.WWE - The Rock - The People's Champ
Much like many superstar DVDs of this time, you get a feature that goes over a segment of The Rock's career. This DVD however is different than something like WWE - Hell Yeah: Stone Cold's Saga Continues in that it focuses more on The Rock outside of the ring instead of his in-ring feuds and matches. This is a nice change from the other DVDs, but if you aren't into what The Rock is doing on his days off than you're out of luck.
This DVD starts around WWE King Of The Ring 1999 and ends at The Rock's Royal Rumble win at WWE Royal Rumble 2000. In between that you will see The Rock hanging out in Miami: buying clothes, getting his haircut, and talking trash. This is all fairly interesting and you'll enjoying watching it. Other then The Rock hanging out, you will see clips from his feuds with: Triple H, Billy Gunn, Undertaker, and Big Show. You will also get a look at his teaming with Mankind.
The extras consist of 9 Rock segments and 8 Rock interviews. There is a slide show, but it's one of the most useless things they could've added. There are no extra matches. The segments and interviews are really funny though and worth checking out. They aren't enough to pull this DVD above three stars though.WWE - Mick Foley - Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops
Who would've expected me to give this DVD five stars? I usually hate DVDs that only show a period of the superstar's career, but this one is so well done. First of all, you have Mick Foley narrating the DVD. He can make really makes this DVD very entertaining to watch and is constantly making you laugh. He even goes into detail about the wrestling business and his feuds.
This DVD actually highlights the best period in Mick's career, mid-1999 to late 2000. You will hear about: his relationship with The Rock, his feud with Al Snow, his barbaric feud with Triple H, and his very comedic role as Commissioner. The DVD is very well done and keeps you into the program.
Extras Include-
Entrance Music for Mick Foley (Commissioner), Mankind, Cactus Jack, and Dude Love
WWF Championship (IYH- Mind Games)
Shawn Michaels(c) VS Mankind
I'm sorry but this match is nowhere near as good as what other people say. It is still a very solid match; it just lacks something to make it special. Still, this has some good wrestling and a few nice spots.
RATING- 8/10
Steve Austin VS Mankind (Raw Nov. 1996)
This was a good Raw match that ended with a lot of interference. Most everything else is forgettable at best. This is a good brawl worth a watch.
RATING- 7/10
Empty Arena Match (Halftime Heat)
WWF Championship
The Rock(c) VS Mankind
This was the first Empty Arena Match, and the second WWF title win for Mankind. The Rock talks a ridiculous amount of trash as they brawl through the entire arena. I felt like the ending was too fake looking though. The match is as entertaining as their other matches though.
RATING- 8.5/10
Special Referee- Vince McMahon (Over the Edge 1998) (Match of the DVD)
WWF Championship
Dude Love VS Steve Austin(c)
Now we come to over glorious Match of the DVD. How odd that this is a Dude Love match. The rules change multiple times in the match. At first it is a normal match, but soon becomes a no disqualification, falls count anywhere match. Both men go all out; Dude Love even hits a Sunset Flip off the top of a car. There are tons of other great moments.
RATING- 9.5/10
Kennel from Hell (Unforgiven 1999)
Al Snow VS Big Boss Man
Why would Mick Foley choose this piece of garbage to show us? The reason is simple; he wanted to make fun of it. Mick and Michael Cole do commentary over the match and make fun off it the entire way. The concept is that there is a steel cage and a Hell in a Cell lowered. The wrestlers would fight inside the steel cage. In between the steel cage and HIAC would be rabid trained dogs. You read it right...rabid...trained...dogs. Horrible match made cool through Mick's commentary.
RATING- 5/10

WWE: Legendary Moments Review

WWE: Legendary Moments
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In support of WWE's latest film called "Legendary" starring John Cena, WWE quietly released a DVD called "Legendary Moments" that Cena also hosted. This is pretty much a "no frills" set in that it goes for around an 90 mins. with no bonus extras & is just strictly highlights & video packages of past moments in WWE history.
Now it should be noted that there were no moments on here that happened BEFORE the "Attitude Era" which means moments like "The Boyhood Dream Has Come True For Shawn Michaels", "Hulkamania Is Here", "Superfly Pearched 15 High!", and other moments that older WWF/E fans would still regard are legendary to this day aren't listed here. It should also be noted that some of these clips are just repeats from other sets like the SmackDown 10th Anniversary DVD.
Anyways, here's the listing for the various moments featured:
-Steve Austin wins his first WWE Championship
-DX Invades WCW Nitro
-Chris Jericho's WWE Debut
-Mankind's "This Is Your Life" With The Rock
-Arnold schwarzenegger Appears On SmackDown
-Austin vs. The Rock At WrestleMania XV
-Steve Austin Gives Vince, Shane & The Rock A Beer Bath
-Steve Austin & Kurt Angle Sing To Vince McMahon
-T.L.C. II From WrestleMania X-7
-The Rock's Greatest Punchlines
-Triple H's Return From Injury At Madison Square Garden
-The 9/11 SmackDown Tribute Show
-John Cena's Debut
-Chris Jericho Becomes The First Undisputed Champion
-Brock Lesnar & Big Show Destroy The Ring On SmackDown
-Kane Unmasked
-John Cena Wins His First WWE Championship & Creates The "Spinner" Belt
-The WrestleMania 23 "Battle Of The Billionares"
-Eddie Guerrero's Championship Celebration On SmackDown
-The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan At WrestleMania X-8
-Edge's First Money In The Bank
-DX's Greatest Hits
-Rey Mysterio Sets A Royal Rumble Record
-John Cena Returns & Wins The Royal Rumble
-Steve Austin Goes In The WWF Hall Of Fame
-Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker At WrestleMania 25
-Bret Hart Returns To The WWE
-Shawn Michaels Retires
-Tribute To The Troops
In the end, this list will always be debateable (again, the fact that they had nothing before the Attitude Era makes that clear) but just talking this DVD for what it is as a nice look of highlights from a little over the past decade and the fact that you can buy this at the retail store for just $10...it's worth getting if your a newer fan who wasn't around or seen most of these but if your a long term fan then I would suggest getting this if you don't already have most of these moments elsewhere.
