Thierry Henry - Legend Review

Thierry Henry - Legend
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I didn't see all of thierry henry's amazing arsenal run, but i did see alot of the latter years. He's always been my favorite player, and this dvd illustrates that to a tee. Great interviews with announcers, past and present teammates and from the man himself. Alot like gretzky, henry did all this with hardly any enemies. A humble athlete on and off the field. I'm not sure how long it will take another player to topple his staggering 226 all-time goals for arsenal, but in the mean time, you can see all of them here. Another great part of henry was his connection to the fans. And also his celebrations showed just how much he loved the team he played for. HENRY = LEGEND!!!!!!!!

The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Film (2010) Review

The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Film (2010)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, this disc will only play in 3D, and it's only 720p, this is one reason why I deducted 1 star.
In spite of it only being 720p, the scenes on the soccer/football fields are pretty amazing. The extra inserted interview footage, not so much. the interview footage is very soft and not quite too sharp, where as the footage on the fields is amazingly sharp.
This movie is simply a documentary of the World Cup playoffs in South Africa. It points out how having the tournament in S. Africa has given pride to the nation as a whole, and brought people of all races in Africa together.
Mainly, however, it highlights many of the (most important) games of the FIFA 2010 World Cup series. I am by no means a sports fan, but I found this BD very entertaining. The footage shot during the games at times makes you feel like your right in the middle of the action. For the most part, the 3D was shot very well, except for a few brief instances of mis-synch between left and right images, and what appears to be a brief instances where the stereo seems inverted. There's not too much of this, however, but this is the other reason I deducted one star.
The interviews and other supplementary inserted footage at times appears to be rather flat, with very little depth, especially the outside shots of the stadiums, but I assume that is due to the zoom factor from a long distance. The interviews were shot rather close, and those are almost flat as well.
However, the game footage is awesome, which is why I bought the BD in the first place. I had seen a short clip of some of the action in 3D which looked really nice, and when I saw the title up for pre-oreder, I jumped on it.
It was nice to see how they take you through the games, highlighting the important goals, wins and losses. I really felt bad when the last African nation in the series, Ghana, lost. Being right in the middle of it made it feel more real for me.
Overall, the film was very well made, and in spite of being only 720p resolution, looks very good. There was practically no ghosting to speak of, at least on my 42" Panasonic Plasma screen.
When I inserted the disc, and started the movie, it immediately displayed in 3D, I didn't have to chage the setting on the TV. The TV and BluRay player have what Panasonic calls VieraLink, which lets the devices communicate with each other when connected via HDMI. I have the BluRay player set to always play 3D titles in 3D, so I don't know if this is why I didn't have to set the TV myself.
At any rate, this was a very entertaining look at something I virtually ignored while it was happening, the FIFA 2010 World Cup. I will watch it again, at some point, and I would reccomment this title to the folks out there with 3d TV's that are hungry for content. It's a live action film, as opposed to the mostly CGI 3D movies that have been made in the last few years, so this is another bonus -- getting to see real humans in 3D.

FIFA World Cup DVD Collection: 1930 -2006 Review

FIFA World Cup DVD Collection: 1930 -2006
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was disappointed by the content of this collection. Granted, I should have done more research into what was actually contained in the DVDs. I was looking for a recap of every goal, both in the group stage an in the playoffs (or, at least, a bit of every match). Instead, this series, for the most part, shows only highlights of the main games of each world cup. Team celebrations, arrivals at the airport, bus rides, fans partying, locker room talks, and, in some DVDs, even the personal stories of stadium workers are heavily covered in these documentaries. Nothing wrong with that if you are interested in the "behind the scenes" aspects of what goes on in these torunaments. In that case, you may find these DVDs interesting. If, like me, you want to see the goals and summaries of the matches, you probably do not want to purchase this product.

The Official Review of UEFA Euro 2008 Review

The Official Review of UEFA Euro 2008
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I waited a year for this DVD to be released, and it was worth the wait. In addition to all the goals of the Euro 2008, a few highlights from each match are also included. The picture quality is quite good, and the commentary is well-informed and enthusiastic. And, thankfully, no music! The pre-game fan celebrations, however, can be annoying to some. Unlike Reedswain's World Cup DVD (where group play is a single chapter), this DVD allows you to skip to the games of the next group.
My copy of the DVD does have a defect, though: It freezes at the beginning of the Greece-Spain game, and resumes at the beginning of the next chapter. Naturally, I asked Amazon for a replacement. As always, they dutifully obliged. But, to my surprise, the replacement DVD had the exact same defect! I've contacted Reedswain, and will update this review after they've had sufficient time to respond.
In short, I highly recommend this DVD to fans of European soccer; in particular, to those who admired Turkey's miraculous performance.
UPDATE: After two weeks there's still no response from Reedswain. Not surprising, though; I'm sure they're not too eager to acknowledge a widespread problem that might prove costly.

2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa - The Final: Netherlands vs. Spain Review

2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa - The Final: Netherlands vs. Spain
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The World Cup Final in it's entirety. Re-live every moment of Spain's thrilling victory in extra time. A must-have for any Spanish soccer fan - or any true fan of the beautiful game.
About the DVD:
The DVD opens with a few minutes of the closing ceremonies that took place before the match. Shakira and a few others were featured. Nicely done. For the game itself, I believe they kept the UK commentators on board, and they did a good job of commenting on the action. They keep the time on the top left of the screen during the entire match, which I was pleasantly surprised about. And of course, they included the trophy presentation and a few-postgame interviews from the coaches. Although I still can't figure out why they dubbed an English translation over the coaches' native languages at the same time and volume. Turns it into a garbled mess and you can't understand a thing.
The video quality -- as i stated in another review from a similar DVD, if you are watching this on a regular tube TV, then you won't be disappointed. Looks awesome. I watched this on my folks' Sony XBR tube from the mid-90's, and the image was sharp, clear, the color were vibrant. If you're like me, however, and you want to watch this on a HDTV, then you'll probably have to deal with all the usual issues of watching a DVD on an HDTV. Noise, image softness, some distortion.
PLEASE MAKE THE BLU-RAY VERSION OF THIS THING!

Manchester United Season Review 2010-2011 Soccer DVD Review

Manchester United Season Review 2010-2011 Soccer DVD
Average Reviews:

Of all the season review dvs's, this is by far the worst. This season review should have been a celebration of the 19th title, instead the producer has tried to show what he can do with editing. All the goals are filmed in strange angles and the commentary is from manutd.com
If I could give this 1/2 stars, I would.
DO NOT BUY THIS DVD!

2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa: Spain - The Champion's Story Review

2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa: Spain - The Champion's Story
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Spain winning the World Cup was a dream come true for Spaniards all over the world. Here's my breakdown of this DVD:
The GOOD
Plenty of interviews and plenty of off-field footage througout the tournament. Good coverage. Fun to re-live the excitement of Spain't trip.
The BAD
The Audio. Absolutely awful. Let's start with the player interviews. Of course, the players speak Spanish. But the makers of the documentary decided to also provide an English-voiced translation at the same time that the players are speaking - at the same volume, making it absolutely impossible to understand. All you hear is a garbled mess of English and Spanish voices. Why the decision to not include english subtitles instead is completely baffling.
And the crowd noise during the matches sounds artificial. I'm not talking about the vuvuzelas. The fiasco surrounding those things has been well documented, and I won't even get into that. But i'm referring to the crowd noise which cuts in and out. Not a good job of audio mixing.
And the video? Although the video quality isn't that bad, why no Blu-Ray option? Every single game was telecast in High-Definition for this World Cup. No excuse to not have a blu-ray version of this documentary.

All the Goals of FIFA World Cup 2006 Review

All the Goals of FIFA World Cup 2006
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This DVD is a great summation of the 2006 World Cup. It includes all the goals, but almost nothing else.
One of the biggest attractions of this DVD for me is hearing proper commentary by informed, skilled individuals which is far superior to the commentary we had to listen to in the U.S. during the televised matches. The other strong point is the many angles from which each goals is shown. The DVD also includes the 10 best goals and the 10 best saves.
The only weakness is that group play is a single chapter: You have to fast-forward to get to another group's goals. I was also concerned with getting my money's worth (given the relatively high price of the DVD), but I ended up watching it several times in the first couple of weeks.
Strongly recommended.
