Balance in Movement Review

Balance in Movement
Average Reviews:

I took up riding as an adult, and have been struggling with sitting the trot on my warmblood mare with extravagant movement. I bought this book based on a review I read in an equestrian magazine, and by the time I had finished the first 3 chapters, went back and ordered 3 more copies (1 for each of my trainers, and 1 for my sister who would otherwise try to steal my copy). It has been incredibly helpful to me personally, and my trainer finds that some of the images and instructions are helping her to get through to other students better, as well. Probably the most valuable book in my rather large equestrian library!

Centered Riding 2 (2005) Review

Centered Riding 2 (2005)

I'm getting back into riding after 30 years of an occasional trail ride, overweight and out of shape. My first few sessions were not so great, so the stable owner who is a centered riding certified instructor, gave me a few lessons on a longe line and bareback pad. What a difference! By studying the basics in Chapter 2, and focusing on how my body moves with the horse, I've become balanced and confident after just 3 hours of lessons. I'm not normally a fan of programs that use imaging to achieve results, but Ms. Swift appears to have hit on a method that puts me back in the saddle so both the horse and I are comfortable.

Coming Together: Use Body Language to Establish Leadership, Friendship, and Trust Review

Coming Together: Use Body Language to Establish Leadership, Friendship, and Trust
Average Reviews:

I don't get it. Why are people saying this isn't a training dvd? Or that it's just a lot of artsy stuff that doesn't teach you anything? Are you kidding me?
EVERYTHING that Klaus is saying...if you just take the time to LISTEN, to HEAR what he's saying....you will learn exactly what you need to know to Understand your horse.
and THAT is better than any regular training dvd that just tells you, do A then do B then do step C....because frankly, most of those "training dvds" don't bother to tell you the psycology behind the moves....
If you don't understand WHY, HOW, and the true use of body language...the language of the horse, then you can do all the steps you want, but you simply will reach a point where you won't be able to go much further....because you can get your horse to do what you want most of the time....but you'll still have some issues...
Until you understand how to COMMUNICATE with the horse using your body and your energy and your mood. Yeah, your mood plays a big part in training.
If you want the gravy for your potatoes....this is it.
Klaus takes the time through slow motion parts in the video so that you can SEE exactly what he's talking about. If all the video is in present time and there's no slow motion, you will miss what he's talking about. So, that's the reason behind the slo mo stuff. It's totally necessary.
If you don't "get" this video, then sadly, you won't "get" horses.
If you are serious and open-minded and want to "get" your horse, truly "get" your horse....then this video will definitely put you in a different level, a higher playing field than the typical training dvds.
HIGHLY recommended!

Trick Horse Training Fundamentals I Review

Trick Horse Training Fundamentals I
Average Reviews:

I purchased Fundamentals I and II DVDs before Christmas and started teaching my horses obeisance (circus bow) to my horses during rainy season. Once we got started, my horses and I were hooked and I ordered the rest of his DVDs. Allen is an excellent instructor, providing clear step by step instructions on how to bring along your equine student. My horses have loved learning these tricks and now wait at the paddock gate, begging me to take them out to play. Teaching them tricks has opened up a new way of communicating with them. Name a behavior and reward it and they incorporate that behavior into their repetoire. Allen is the best!

If Horses Could Speak: How Incorrect Modern Riding Negatively Affects Horses' Health Review

If Horses Could Speak: How Incorrect Modern Riding Negatively Affects Horses' Health
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This provocative and ground-breaking film, If Horses Could Speak, is based on the best-selling book Tug of War: "Modern" versus Classical Dressage--a book that shook the equestrian industry upon its initial release around the world. Now, you can take a step further into the examination of the horse's "riding experience" and see just how specific kinds of movement and posture impact the horse's skeleton and musculature.
Through the magic of amazing three-dimensional animation--as never-before-seen in an equestrian video of this kind--viewers are shown how the horse's limbs, muscles, and ligaments interact at various gaits. In addition, live-action examples of riding, both good and bad, demonstrate the effect human beings have on their equine "partners." Viewers are sure to be astounded by the direct role their riding has on their horse's physical and mental health and well-being.
If Horses Could Speak includes interviews with professional riders, veterinarians, and academics who specialize in the study of the horse's anatomy and how riders can best work with it, rather than against it. Plus, shocking clips from warm-up arenas around the world expose the dark side of competitive horse sport. Altogether an illuminating and eye-opening visual experience, this DVD is not to be missed by anyone who desires to train and ride horses in a way that nurtures and builds them up, rather than wears them out and tears them apart.
DR. GERD HEUSCHMANN trained as a Bereiter (master rider) in Germany before qualifying for veterinary study at Munich University. There he specialized in equine orthopedics for two years before accepting a post as the head of the breeding department at the German FN, which he eventually left to start his own practice in Warendorf. He has been an active member of the "hyperflexion" (previously referred to as Rollkur) debate, weighing in at the 2005 USDF National Symposium and the 2006 FEI Veterinary and Dressage Committees' Workshop. Along with Klaus Balkenhol and other prominent figures in the dressage community, Dr. Heuschmann is a founding member of "Xenophon," an organization dedicated to "fighting hard against serious mistakes in equestrian sport" ([...]).

The Visible Rider: Anatomy in Motion 2 (2005) Review

The Visible Rider: Anatomy in Motion 2 (2005)
Average Reviews:

Good video for beginners to learn how their riding affects the horse. I only gave it 3 stars because the dressage saddle on the gray horse was girthed way too far forward and the rider was interfering with his movement. This is a contradiction of the video subject matter and someone of Susan Harris's credentials should have known better.
