Next Level Fly Fishing Vol. 2 Mammoth Review

Next Level Fly Fishing Vol. 2 Mammoth

This video isn't bad ... however, you could delete almost all of the section on Crowley lake ... who really cares about sitting in a boat and jigging nymphs off the bottom in a still deep-water cove? Might as well be 2 - 12 year old kids drowning worms with a bobber! The spot on Hot creek was good, but woefully short in both time and in fishing action, as the primary and most attractive stream in the area. Shoud have also had a whole section on the Upper and Lower Owens, as well as some of the other waters / creeks in the area, rather than almost none at all. And the back country fishing, while enjoyable and a little informative, could have been a lot better destinations than simply catching a bunch of 8 inch "wild" fish - those may be fun, but they're not a compelling reason to go.

Fly Fishing Yellowstone National Park Review

Fly Fishing Yellowstone National Park
Average Reviews:

The video is good in that is shows portions of a lot of Yellowstone streams, including a number of lesser known streams. So it satisfies one's curiosity about what those streams looks like. And of course the scenery is all very good. It also gives some good advice on how to fly fish different streams. My only complaint is that the 4 hour length is achieved mostly by a long video of maps at the end of each disk. You are better off consulting a map or atlas for that, not a video.

NYMPHING BY THE NUMBERS with KELLY GALLOUP (2007) Review

NYMPHING BY THE NUMBERS with KELLY GALLOUP (2007)

In this DVD Kelly Galloup unloads a massive amount of tips and information! Even when Kelly is fighting a fish he is telling tips on what he is doing right and wrong. This DVD is very informative on nymphing and leaves the viewer with confidence after watching the DVD. Only downside is sometimes the camera doesn't follow certain things that Kelly is trying to emphasize. I am thoroughly pleased at the level of instruction included in this DVD and hope that Mr. Galloup continues to produce instructionals!

ARTICULATED STREAMERS with KELLY GALLOUP (2007) Review

ARTICULATED STREAMERS with KELLY GALLOUP (2007)
Average Reviews:

Kelly Gallup is the go to guy when it comes to Rocky Mountain Trophy Brown Trout fishing. If your coming anywhere out here in the Greater Yellowstone Area to fly fish, you owe it to yourself to get and study the book by Kelly and Bob Linneman, the primer Michigan guide, and also Kelly's DVD's on streamer fishing, finding "soft" water, particularly during runoff, which this year has extended into August. Also, you need to look at Kelly's streamer "system", how to tie and use streamers, in colors and shapes when working a trout river or stream, particularly when there is no dry fly hatch in progress. This stuff is practical, thorough, makes sense, and works. I use his methods on the Snake and Wind rivers and in the lakes of the Wind River Mountains. It really works if you want that big fish. Spey Fishing Steelhead with John Hazel (2005) Review

Spey Fishing Steelhead with John Hazel (2005)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This DVD is an excellent compliment to John & Amy Hazel's spey casting DVD's. Once you can get your fly out in the river with a two-handed rod, John covers everything you need to know to hook steelhead. This is good, practical instruction from one of the most experienced spey guides & teachers out there. I think almost anyone will pick up some useful tips. John discusses leaders, knots & flies and then fishes a few runs showing how to cover the water with surface skaters, wet flies and droppers. Thorough attention is given to likely holding water and steelhead behavior on the take. Great video!
This DVD will be most helpful for beginner and intermediate steelhead fly fishers but also for advanced students of the sport who can't get enough.

Successful Fly Fishing Strategies Review

Successful Fly Fishing Strategies

These are the best fly fishing videos I have seen. I love it when you see a fish take the fly and most videos and TV shows don't show takes. These do. I have read books by LaFontaine, but didn't know he could be so quick and so funny on camera. I'm fairly experienced at the sport, but I really learned a lot about things I have never analyzed properly. The videos made me feel that I could become really good at this.

This video covers nine different types of water, including small creeks, good-sized rivers, medium-sized streams, stillwater lakes (with float tubes),deep slow moving rivers, 90 degree curves with undercut banks and deep holes and boulder-strewn, fast moving water. We show different fishing situations and demonstrate how to fish with dry flies, nymphs, emergers or streamers, or a combination. We also show how to attach and use different types of indicators and how to set up and fish two flies at once. The purpose of this video is to provide important, valuable anduseable information, all while entertaining the viewer. We believe that you cannot expect people to learn (and view the tapes over and over again) unless they enjoy watching themunless they have a good time. This tape is entertaining as well as educational. Gary and Dick each have a great sense of humor and truly have a good time together. This comes "through the lens."

ADVANCED SPEY with John and Amy Hazel (2008) Review

ADVANCED SPEY with John and Amy Hazel (2008)

John & Amy Hazel demonstrate how to dial in exactly the right length and weight of shooting head for your two-handed rod and show you how easy it is to make effortless, monster casts with these hot new lines.
I have a 14', 9 weight and a 12'6", 7 weight rod set up with the Vision Ace heads used in this DVD and they are a real pleasure to cast. It requires a different casting stroke than the traditional spey style, but it's much easier to learn and you'll pick it up in no time. I have several spey casting videos and this is the only one that shows you how to get the perfect line match for your rod, which is critical. Highly recommended.
