Fencing Workout Review

Fencing Workout
Average Reviews:

On the positive side, this DVD will certainly increase muscularity in ways that may allow one to be a better fencer. There is a significant amount of focus on strengthening and toning the legs, as well as agility work, that will keep your heart racing and likely make you sore after the first few times you do it.
On the negative side, this DVD rushes the participant into a very intense work out that you may not necessarily be ready to do. Many stretches and some exercises can only be performed after significant training, such as doing a split.
Some portions also require you to have a fencing foil, so be forewarned that full use of this DVD requires a foil and a hanging target.
In short, it is a useful DVD, if you are physically capable of keeping up with someone who has about 15 years of fencing training and practice. I recommend this DVD for those who seriously want to fence- as well as a yoga routine and strength training prior to your use of this DVD!

The Longsword of Johannes Liechtenauer Vol. 1 Review

The Longsword of Johannes Liechtenauer Vol. 1

This is a fantastic DVD, the first available for studying medieval sword fighting or swordplay. Not only high on production values, but with rock-solid technique as well.
Features some fine scenes of dueling in the Liechtenauer or German style, followed by detailed "how to" segments for learning the basic footwork, movements, strikes and "meisterhau"
A must for any WMA library!

Fencing: Basic Beginners Training (2005) Review

Fencing: Basic Beginners Training (2005)

This video, available in both VHS (listed by the director, Bill Myers) and DVD (listed by the instructor, Michael Bradley) formats, offers a very useful and clear introduction to essential (foil) fencing techniques. Some of the information is wrong (points are no longer scored against the receiver, but for the toucher), and others I disagree with (his en guarde stance is more epee than foil), but most of the instruction is very good, and the quality is also good. Overall, this is the best instructional video I've seen for fencing, and I wish there were more like it.

LEARN FENCING - FOIL - A DVD Beginers Guide to the Olympic Sport of Sword Fighting Review

LEARN FENCING - FOIL - A DVD Beginers Guide to the Olympic Sport of Sword Fighting

As I am writing this review it is my 4th week of Foil fencing and this DVD is exactly what I needed. In my beginner class, a lot of terms and techniques are shown to us very quickly. This DVD is great for breaking down and showing each fencing move so that I can practice and reinforce what I have learned in the class at home. Effective attacks and parries are shown with great detail showing proper foil and footwork. A good investment.
