Well I just finished watching Alain's fourth installment in the Lock-On DVD series and I have to say that he has definitely kept the legacy of quality instruction alive with this latest installment in the series. I own every volume in the Lock-On series and fully endorse the quality of the material provided in each and every volume, and this latest release is no exception. Here are the first three volumes in the series.
Lock On: Joint Locking Essentials Volume 1: Wrist Locks
Lock On: Joint Locking Essentials Volume 2: Arm Bars & Elbow Locks
Lock On: Joint Locking Essentials Volume 3: Shoulder Locks
In this volume Alain takes you through a variety of finger locks against a variety of attacks. From the simple handshake, to wrist and arm grabs, clothing grabs, and even against a violent shove from the front, and so much more. Alain does all of his instruction from a very relaxed atmosphere and on a very personal level, almost like you were right there with him receiving one-on-one private instruction, and that is exactly what you are getting. The filming is done from a single point of view, although there are the occasional uses of close-ups and slow motion filming in order to give you a clearer view of what is being taught. You will not find this or the other DVD's in the series to be full of the latest and greatest Hollywood special effects or 3-D angles, instead you have a single yet extremely effective viewpoint with nothing to distract you from the high quality of instruction provided by Alain. I know that some people like all the bells and whistles and rickety rack, but unless it is pertinent to the lessons being taught, they seem to me to be a waste of time and space that can better be used to instruct the viewer.
And if that is the only downside to this video (and the entire series as a whole), then you really have no reason why you shouldn't be ordering this and the other three volumes in the series immediately upon finishing this review.
One really shining moment was at the end of the video when Alain explained what he was trying to accomplish with this series and why. I won't reveal it here, but I feel that I can make the following statement and after you watch the conclusion, I think you would agree with me and that is...
"Alain shows that he truly is an exceptional instructor, martial artist, and human being when he can honestly assess what he teaches and believes and relay that belief with brutally honest truth being told not only to the viewers, but also to himself. Which a lot of other "so-called" martial artists, self-defense experts, and so on can not seem to do."
My hat's off to you Alain for your honesty! I mean really, when a grown man can admit on film that his little sister beat him up then that truly needs to be recognized and acknowledged for what it is.
So toughen up girlie man! (Just Kidding)
